PAPPAS SCORES CAREER FIRST LATE MODEL SPORTSMAN VICTORY

Lining up on the outside front row, Nick Pappas led the Hoosier Tire Mid Atlantic late model sportsman field all the way to score his career first victory on Cartoon Family Night. A weekly competitor from Gaithersburg, MD, he ended with a 3.28 second lead over Mike Walls.

“I’d like to thank my crew, they did a great job for me,” Pappas said. “I’d also like to thank Moe Defino. He’s the one who has made the difference of me being here. I was good. I was just hoping the thing wouldn’t give up.”

Hagerstown’s Dave Stouffer Jr. recorded the Ernie D’s pure stock victory by narrowly holding off Kevin Boyer before the rain drops started falling. Gary Proctor of Big Pool, MD put his D & D Auto Recycling hobby Stock into victory lane by a one length margin over Mark Vegh.

Mike Walls and Pappas occupied the front row for the late model sportsman feature as Walls held to second until Ronnie Dennis moved to the runner up spot on the sixth lap.

Pappas lost a two second lead on a tenth lap restart while Dennis got high and lost a number of positions on the restart as Walls retook the runner up spot with Andy Fries grabbing third. While Fries was trying to take second, Pappas gradually began stretching his lead until speeding past the flagstand 3.28 seconds ahead of Walls and Fries. Terry Flaherty took fourth from Cory Houck on the final circuit. Scott Palmer, Donnie Farlling, Justin Weaver, Dennis and Sammy Schaffer were next. Schaffer was the Liberty Auto and Tire hard charger. Heat winners were Mike Walls, Paul Cursey and Dennis.

The pure stocks took time trials for their qualifying efforts and Stouffer Jr. was the quickest with a time of 2.3946 seconds and lined up alongside Tony Catlett. Stouffer pulled ahead of Catlett on the opening lap with Kenny Dillon taking second the next circuit. Fifth starting Kevin Boyer moved past Kevin Koontz for third on lap four and then pressured Dillon until taking second on the eighth circuit as Steve Lowery moved into third. Boyer pulled alongside Stouffer several times but was unable to complete the pass and came past the flag stand a half car length behind and alongside Stouffer. Lowery ended third with Eddie McClellan and Brian Miller following. Ninth finisher Craig Kline was the

Ecton and Son Service and Repair hard charger. Heats went to Boyer and Catlett.

From the outside pole of the hobby stocks, Lane Hessong pulled to the front while sixth starter Gary Proctor charged forward and into the lead on lap three. Proctor never looked back but did have eighth starter Mark Vegh move into second on the fifth lap and begin closing. Vegh got to a length but could not make the pass.

Tom Caravello finished third over Nick Dibella and Nathaniel Younker.
