Mullens picks up Humboldt checkers!

Humboldt Speedway- On a beautiful Friday night at Humboldt Speedway, NASCAR / Whelen All-American racing returned to the ? mile Bullring with the added bonus of a $1000 to win NCRA Modified Challenge. Along with the Modifieds, B Mods, Street Stocks, Factory Stocks and Sport Compacts drew 80 cars for the evening's festivities.
In NASCAR / Whelen All American Series Modified racing, NCRA drivers challenged the famed ? mile “Hummer” in hopes of cashing in on a coll $1000 payday. Wichita’s Cody Schniepp paced the first twelves laps of the A feature until a mid-race caution bunched the field back together. Fellow Wichita area racer, Tanner Mullens, grabbed the lead and never looked back en route to the victory. What made this win more impressive was the fact that Mullens, suffering during a less than stellar heat race, made his way out of the B feature in picking up the win. Dan Powers, Cody Schniepp, Tyler Davis and Tad Davis rounded out the top five. Heat race wins went to Schniepp, Powers and Brendon Gemmill.
In Ray’s Metal Depot B Modified, Cody Jolly continued his quest to repeat to 2017 by picking up a hard fought win. Chanute’s Tyler Kidwell led from the drop of the flag, holding off Brian McGowen and Kenton Allen for the beginning circuits of the A feature. McGowen briefly grabbed the lead but suffered transmission problems that forced him to the rear. On the ensuing restart, Jolly slid past both Kidwell and Allen to pick up the victory. Heat race wins on the night went to Allen and Tim Van Gotten.
In Street Stocks sponsored by the Tumbleweed Music Festival, Bixby, OKlahoma driver Danny Womack passed fellow Oklahoman Dalton Garrison in the final laps of the A feature picking up his first ever win at Humboldt Speedway. Chanute’s Jason Thurman rounded out the top three. Garrison picked up the heat win.
In Home Savings Bank Factory Stock racing, Chanute’s Jacob Ellison used his pole position starting spot to lead every lap on his way to picking up his first victory of the season. Current points leader and last years point Champion Jon Westhoff advanced five positions to finish second. Humboldt’s Scott Collins ran third. Heat race wins went to Ellison and Collins.
In the final feature of the evening, the O’Reilly’s Automotive Sports Compact A feature saw Humboldt’s Eric Ikehorn jump out to the lead and never look back as he picked up his first win of the 2018 season. Brandon Vink and Barry Luthi completed the top three. Heat rac wins went to Ikehorn and Chanute’s Trenton Wilson.
