Kidwell, Garrison, Westhoff and Stipp roll on Veteran's Night at Humboldt Speedway

Humboldt Speedway- With all chances of rain diminished for the night, Humboldt Speedway roared back to life Friday night for NASCAR / Whelen All-American Racing Series action. Added to the evenings activities was Veteran's Night and the tracks annual Mechanics Races. Veterans and active duty service men and women were honored at intermission while Chanute American Legion Post 170 Legion Riders carried the nations colors in pre-race ceremonies.
O'Reilly Auto Parts Sport Compacts kicked off the night with a close heat race and even closer racing in the A Feature. Humboldt's Trey Stipp held off Eric Ikehorn and Brandon Vink en route to his seventh A feature win on the season. O'Reilly Auto Parts Sport Compacts will be in action next Saturday competing on night #2 of the POWRI Open Wheel Challenge.
Jon Westhoff , in Home Savings Bank Factory Stocks, is putting together quite a memorable season. Westhoff took advantage of a strong Heat race peformance and pole position starting spot to pick up his tenth win on the 2018 season. Westhoff outpaced seventh starting Wayne Johnson and fourth starting Patrick Kay for the victory. Heat race wins went to Ethan Lamons, Scott Collins and Kay.
In Tumbleweed Music Festival Street Stocks, Collinsville, Oklahoma's Dalton Garrison set a fast pace that out distanced Scott Stuart and Jay Lamons in the nights A feature. Garrison, who made the 115 miles trip to Humboldt Speedway, fought off a late race challenge by Stuart to secure the victory. Tumbleweed Music Festival Street Stocks will next be in action on September 7th.
In the nights Ray's Metal Depot B Modified A feature, Chanute's Tyler Kidwell took advantage of Tim Van Gotten's misfortune and turned it into an A feature win. Van Gotten paced the field for the first 14 laps when a tire went down, Kidwell seized the chance and held off Edgerton, Kansas driver Dakota Foster for the win. The win, Kidwell's third on the season at Humboldt Speedway, vaulted him into fourth place in points with the season winding down. Cody Jolly currently sits in the lead with a 112 point gap over Second place Matthew Kay. Van Gotten, Kidwell and Clint Johnson complete the top five. Ray's Metal Depot will next be in action on Friday, Night #1 of the POWRI Open Wheel Challenge.
The finale for the evening was Humboldt Speedway's annual Mechanics races. Picking up wins were Clint Haigler in Sports Compacts, William Franklin in Factory Stocks, Derrick Houser in B Mods and Shawn Burns in Street Stocks.
