August 21, 2004 Results

Pevely, MO (August 21, 2004) Ed Dixon put on a stunning performance in the United Midwestern Promoter (U.M.P.) Late Model division. The feature started off bad for Dixon on the first lap when pole sitter Matt Taylor broke coming out of turn two. Taylor and Dixon made some contact which resulted in a left rear flat tire on Dixon's car. Dixon would get the flat changed during the caution period and restart at the rear of the field. Kyle Steffens jumped out to the early lead on the second restart. Steffens would lead the early laps until Billy Faust moved past him on lap six. Steffens suffered mechanical problems soon after and pulled out of the event. Faust appeared to be cruising to victory as Dixon was passing car after car while working his way to the front. Dixon caught a break on lap seventeen when the caution flew for Jim Durbin who slowed with a flat tire. Dixon had worked his way to third place at this point, only having Faust and Danny Haynes ahead of him. On the restart, Dixon quickly disposed of Haynes and took the second spot. Faust had built up a ten car lengths lead but Dixon quickly closed down that gap and moved ahead of Faust as they took the white flag. But Faust fought back through turns one and two and the two drivers raced side-by-side down the backstretch. Dixon found the better line through turns three and four and took the win. Faust was second, Haynes took third and Denny Woodworth and Rodney Pense rounded out the top five. Scott Weber found his way back to victory lane in the U.M.P. Modified division. Brian Wolfmeier took the lead on the opening lap of the main event and maintained the lead until lap fifteen, that's when he suffered a right rear flat. Wolfmeier had been holding off Weber's challenges lap after lap. Weber took the lead on the restart and had to fend off Bobby Bittle and Brent Mullins for the win. Mullins took second just a half car length behind Weber. Bittle was third, Mark Miner took fourth and Eric Mabery fifth. Rich Whaley won the Missouri/Illinois Dodge Dealer's Hard Charger Award. Whaley started eighteenth in the main event and finished seventh. Doug Blair also improved his finishing spot eleven positions from where he started. But Whaley finished higher in the overall finishing order and wins the $200 bonus. Ricky Horton lead all fifteen laps of the A.A.R.A. Sportsman feature. Horton's win moved him back into first place in the very tight points race. Ed Lowry came home second, Bob Prince third, Bob Schmidt fourth and Paul Bauman fifth. Troy Naeger claimed the G&M Steel Dash for Cash. Naeger's car went across the finish line with flames under the hood in the Dash and was unable to start the feature event. Homer Mooney and Pat Brewer took the feature wins in the A.A.R.A. Pro 4 Stock division. John Leahy took the win in the Southern Missouri Dwarf Car Association main event. The race got off to a rough start when a crash on the backstretch of the opening lap eliminated nine of the twenty-six cars in the main event. None of the drivers were seriously injured, but several cars appeared to be severly damaged. Tommy Worley, Sr. came from deep in the field to finish second and Troy Jacobs was third. U.M.P.
