Pevely, MO (April 9, 2005) A beautiful Spring evening provided a great backdrop for an excellent night of racing at I-55 Raceway. The nice weather brought out a large crowd for the first regular night of racing. The U.M.P. Late Model division hit the track for the first time in 2005. Billy Faust started on the outside of the front row of the main event and led all twenty-five laps enroute to victory. Faust held off the early challenges of Clay Baumann but was able to distance himself from Baumann late in the race as they work lapped traffic. Baumann found himself battling to hang on to the second position as Matt Taylor and Rodney Melvin applied the pressure for most of the event. Baumann was able to fend off the challenges and finish second with Taylor third and Melvin fourth. Mark Voigt claimed the fifth position as he crossed the line in Melvin's shadow. Kevin Epperson won the Missouri/Illinois Dodge Dealers Hard Charger Award. This was Epperson's first event in a U.M.P. Late Model as he moved up from the modified ranks. The U.M.P. Modified main event was a classic as there were battles for just about every position almost every lap. Mark Miner battled side-by-side and nose-to-tail with Brian Wolfmeier lap after lap with Dennis Richards occassionally sticking his nose into the action. As Miner and Wolfmeier would battle for the lead, Richards and Bobby Bittle would battle for third and Scott Weber, Doug Wood and Tom Ratajczyk were battling for fifth. It was Miner taking the win, with Wolfmeier second, Richards third, Bittle fourth and Weber fifth. Paul Bauman started the 2005 season off in the A.A.R.A. Sportsman division the same way he ended the 2004 season, winning. Bauman led all fifteen laps of the main event, but had to fend off the challenges of Paul Belken lap after lap. Belken tried every possible line late in the race, but couldn't find a way past Bauman and he settled for second. Mike Nicholson worked his way up from the tenth starting spot to claim third and Scott Stuppy followed him from his eleventh starting spot to take fourth. Troy Medley rounded out the top five. Bauman also won the G&M Steel Dash for Cash. Bauman pocketed an extra $100 for his effort. Conrad Miner claimed the A.A.R.A. Pro 4 Stock main event after the original winner, Dave Heinrichs, was disqualified when he refused a post race "claim". Pat Brewer was second, Homer Mooney third, Chris Fisher fourth and Jason Ely fifth. U.M.P.
