Pevely, MO (April 16, 2005) It was a night of action at I-55 Raceway that won't be forgotten anytime soon. A huge turnout of fans witnessed side-by-side action race after race as some cars raced around the top while others chose the very bottom. The United Midwestern Promoters(UMP) Late Model main event was a barn burner as Justin Allgaier of Riverton, IL, took home a very hard fought victory. Allgaier took the lead on the opening lap and had a battle on his hands for the lead for the entire twenty-five laps. Mark Voigt applied the pressure for the first half of the race, as Voigt charged around the low side through the turns attempting to make the pass for the lead, Allgaier would pull ahead down each straight away. As Voigt's tires appeared to go away late in the race, Tim Ratajczyk took over the second spot and pulled along side Allgaier lap after lap as he tried to take the lead using the low side. Each time Allgaier would pull ahead down the straight aways. Allgaier crossed the finish line a half-car length ahead of Ratajczyk to take the win. Kyle Steffens followed Allgaier around the high side and came home third. Ed Dixon made a last lap pass on Matt Taylor to claim the fourth spot. Voigt slid back to sixth after his great run in the first half of the main event. The UMP Modified division kept the fireworks going. Rusty Griffaw made his first appearance of 2005 at I-55 Raceway and was looking to extend his main event winning streak to five straight. Griffaw had won four consecutive main events at various tracks over the last week. Griffaw didn't leave disappointed as he swept the night's events as he won his qualifying heat, the dash and the main event. Griffaw took the lead on the opening lap from the pole starting position and he held off the outside front row starter Scott Weber for sixteen laps. Weber stayed glued to Griffaw's back bumper and attempted several times to get under Griffaw through the turns to take the lead. On lap sixteen, Weber drove into turn one very hard on the bottom and slid up in front of Griffaw, but his momentum carried him into the outside wall. Griffaw just missed him, but third place running Dennis Richards hit Weber in the right side very hard causing Weber's car to barrel roll onto it's roof. Weber was alright and walked away from the accident. Griffaw went on to victory. Bobby Bittle took advantage of Weber and Richards' misfortunes and claimed the second spot. Brian Wolfmeier was third, Doug Wood fourth and Mark Miner fifth. Paul Belken returned to victory lane in the AARA Sportsman division. Belken led all fifteen laps enroute to the victory. Paul Bauman made a late race charge from his tenth place starting position, but came up short at the end and settled for second. Ed Lowry claimed the third spot with Troy Medley finishing fourth and Chuck Adams rounding out the top five. Paul Buaman picks up the Missouri/Illinois Dodge Dealers Hard Charger Award for advancing the most positions in the main event. Scott Geary claimed the AARA Pro 4 Stock feature after the initial winner Pat Brewer was disqualified. Brewer's car failed post race inspection as it was determined he didn't have enough air pressure in his right rear tire per the class rules. Homer Mooney was second and Conrad Miner took third.
