Dively, Harrison, Naeger & Miner take Opening Night Victories at I-55 Raceway!

CLICK HERE FOR PHOTOS FROM I-55 RACEWAY Pevely, MO (April 21, 2007) I-55 Raceway finally got their 2007 racing season started after three straight weeks of being forced to cancel because of Mother Nature and Old Man Winter. The pit area was packed with 124 racecars in their four divisions and the fans came out in force to see the opening night action. By feature time in all divisions, the track was smooth and slicked over and provided great two and three wide racing in all four divisions. In the U.M.P. (United Midwestern Promoters) DirtCar Series Late Model division, Brian Dively of Springfield, IL claimed one his biggest wins of his dirt late model career. Dively, who was the 2006 U.M.P. Late Model Rookie of the Year, moved past early leader Michael Kloos on lap seven and led the remaining eighteen circuits to earn the victory. Dively was flawless getting through the lapped traffic, even though many of those cars were racing two and three wide. Kloos had to hold off a late charge from Tim Ratajczyk to keep his second place finish. Tim Manville came home in the fourth position with 2006 I-55 Raceway track champion Bryan Collins rounding out the top five. Mike Harrison of Highland, IL stormed to victory in the U.M.P. DirtCar Modified division. Harrison jumped out front on the opening lap and led all twenty laps of the feature. The battle raged for the second spot, as long time friends Bobby Bittle and Bobby Martintoni raced side-by-side for eighteen of the twenty laps in the feature. Bittle just edged Martintoni at the line for the second spot. Doug Wood claimed the fourth position and Ray Walsh ripped through the field to finish fifth after starting nineteenth. The feature went all twenty laps caution free after one caution on the initial start. The U.M.P. DirtCar Sportsman division provided a five way battle at the head of the field. Troy Naeger, Troy Medley, Kent Nations, Jeff LeBaube and Gary Haynes raced two, three and even four wide at times as they battled for the top spot. Troy Naeger finally broke free in the final laps and earned the win. Medley took the second spot, with Nations slipping by LeBaube in the closing laps for the fourth spot. Haynes rounded out the top five. The U.M.P. DirtCar Pro 4 Stocks saw Conrad Miner and Jason Crump race side by side for the entire distance in their feature event. Third place also had a side by side battle for most of the event as well, as Trey Harris and Gary Price battled continuously. Miner edged Crump at the line for the victory with Harris taking third, Price fourth and Steve Morley completed the top five.
