Collins, Smith, Naeger, Price & Adams take I-55 Raceway Victories!

CLICK HERE FOR PHOTOS FROM I-55 RACEWAY Pevely, MO (May 19, 2007) The I-55 Raceway track crew prepared a great racing surface that provided side-by-side racing all night long in all classes. The smooth and racy surface provided some very exciting races that included some incredible runs by some great drivers. In the U.M.P. Late Model division, it was Bryan Collins of Elsberry, MO taking the victory in the main event. Collins took command of the feature event on the opening lap and never looked back as he let everyone else battle it out for second place. The battle for second was a great race as Ed Dixon and Mark Oller swapped the spot and raced side-by-side lap after lap. Then late in the race, Brian Wolfmeier and Craig Smith moved into the battle for the second spot. The four raced hard with Dixon claiming second at the line. Third place went to Wolfmeier with Oller just edging Smith for the fourth spot. The UMP Modifieds was one of the most exciting features you will ever see. Several of the top modified cars had mechanical troubles in their heats and had to race their way through the consolation features including Mike Harrison, Bobby Bittle, Ray Walsh and Matt Goulden. The fans new they were going to be in for a treat watching those drivers make a charge through the field in the feature event. And they got exactly what they were wanting. The feature started out with Tim Hill pacing the early laps as he looked strong around the top. Meanwhile, Mike Harrison and Ray Walsh began their charge to the front early on. Harrison reached all the way to third place when the caution came out on lap twelve behind leader Tim Hill and second place runner Mark Miner. On the restart, Tim Hill would get into turn one too hard and make contact with the wall as Miner and Harrison went low to make the pass. Tim Hill would slip back several spots from there. The battle for the win appeared to be between Miner and Harrison. The battled back and fourth, sliding past each other in each turn and banging wheels and bumpers in the process. Then the two made significant contact coming out of turn two as both cars ended up sideways and stopped at the exit of turn two. Officials decided to put both cars to the rear of the field on the restart. That put the Smith brothers, Marty Smith, Jr. and Chris Smith into the top two spots along with Ray Walsh in third for the restart. Walsh dove under Chris Smith on the restart and the two battled fiercly for second as they battled right on the rear bumper of Marty Smith, Jr. It was Marty Smith, Jr. that took the checkered flag first with Ray Walsh a very close second and Chris Smith third. Tim Hill fought back for a fourth place finish with Dennis Richards rounding out the top five. Troy Naeger paced all fifteen laps of the UMP Sportsman main event, but not with ease as Kent Nations was glued to his rear bumper looking for an opportunity to slip past. But Naeger would never slip and would hang on for the win. Troy Medley would cross the line in third behind Nations. A couple of new names showed some muscle in the UMP Sportsman class as Tyson Gegg charged to a fourth place finish and Kyle Stolzer completed the top five. Twenty-three cars started the AARA Pro 4 feature and they were buzzing all over the track from top to bottom. Gary Price brought home the win as the event went green to checkered without a caution. Chris Fisher came home second with Pat Brewer third, Trey Harris fourth and Homer Mooney fifth.
