Korte, Rumble, Herzog & Todd take victories at I-55 Raceway!

Pevely, MO (May 9, 2009) After heavy rains pounded the area most of the day on Friday, Mother Nature brought beautiful weather on Saturday that provided some great racing action. In the U.M.P. DIRTcar Super Late Model division, Randy Korte of Highland, Illinois was on a mission after a tough outing two weeks ago at I-55 Raceway when his night ended with a twenty-second place finish. Korte started on the pole for the main event after winning the G&M Steel Dash earlier in the evening. Korte bolted to the lead at the drop of the green flag and led all twenty-five laps of the main event. Billy Laycock on Marine, Illinois made his first appearance of the 2009 racing season at I-55 Raceway and had a great night and was Korte's only serious threat during the main event. However, Laycock would settle for a solid second place finish. Tim Ratajczyk had his best outing of the 2009 season and claimed the third finishing spot. Jeff Johns would take the fourth spot with Brian Collins rounding out the top five. The highlight event of the night was the U.M.P. DIRTcar Modified feature event. Five different drivers battled in a pack for the lead for most of the event, but it was Randy Korte and Kenny Rumble that provided the fans with a spectacular four lap shootout at the end. Korte was leading on the restart with four laps left when Rumble dove under Korte going into turn one and made it stick and he powered past Korte down the backstretch. Rumble would hold of the challenges of Korte for the remainder of the event and earn the victory with Korte a close second. Tommie Seets, Jr., would edge Ray Walsh for the third spot with Bobby Bittle following Walsh across the line to take fifth. Jeff Herzog claimed his first U.M.P. DIRTcar/A.A.R.A. Sportsman main event of the 2009 and became the fourth different winner in four events. Herzog got the lead from pole sitter Tim Hollerbach on the lap three and then held off all challenges during the final laps of the fifteen lap event. Hollerbach would finish second with Ronnie Bader taking third. Troy Naeger stormed through the field to finish fourth after starting ninteenth. Matt Hancock completed the top five. Mark Todd earned his second U.M.P. DIRTcar/A.A.R.A. Pro 4 Stock feature win. Todd paced the field for the entire ten laps of the feature event. Chris Fisher, who also has two feature wins this season would finish in the second spot. Jason Crump took third while Justin McCallister was fourth and Josh Range fifth.
