Taylor Passes Lots of Cars During Midget Debut with New Team
Inside Line Promotions – FORT MORGAN, Colo. (May 24, 2016) – Zac Taylor raced against the best midget drivers in the world at the Chili Bowl Nationals in January so when he and car owner Todd Henry showed up at I-76 Speedway on Saturday they were shocked to learn Taylor was considered a “rookie” with the Rocky Mountain Midget Racing Association.
“When we got there we found out we had to start last because I was a rookie because it was my first race with the organization,” Taylor said. “Neither Todd or myself were too happy. There were five or six rookies there.”
Taylor, who advanced from fifth to fourth place in a heat race, started 17th in the feature. However, he quickly moved into the top 10 before an incident occurred.
“My right rear got over the left rear of another car and I spun,” he said. “I had to go back to 22nd and I got behind a guy who wouldn’t go on the restart and I couldn’t pass him until we got by the cone. The front of the field was in turn two by the time I got out of turn four.”
Taylor overcame the issue to storm back and record a ninth-place finish.
“The guy beside us in the pits said I probably passed more cars than anyone,” Taylor said. “I can’t thank Todd enough. He was so helpful. He told me what the car would do and what I had to do and it all worked just as he said.”
Taylor has a busy Memorial Day weekend with three races on tap, beginning on Saturday at Colorado Motorsports Park in Byers, Colo., with the Colorado Alliance Tour. Taylor will then compete on Sunday and Monday at WaKeeney Speedway in WaKeeney, Kan., with the URSS.
He is currently sixth in URSS National points and leads the URSS Colorado Region standings.
