Shake Up Jacob – Back on Track
NEWTON (July 13, 2010) – It was back to the track this past weekend for the Ossenfort Racing team. They stayed close to home traveling throughout South Dakota . Weather played a small part in their decision, but what a good decision it was.
Saturday night took the team to I-90 Speedway in Hartford , South Dakota for an ASCS (American Sprint Car Series) National 360 Outlaw event. Hot laps went really well for Jacob and the Knology #99J, which put them in a position of comfort for his heat race. Jacob started front row outside in his heat, taking the lead and skillfully holding off competition for the win. “To get a heat race win against the best 360 drivers in the Nation, got us pretty excited for the main event.”
Although the seventeen year old has had some tough luck with his re-draw, Saturday night’s draw placed him in the eighth starting position for the Main . The Ossenfort Racing team changed their setup, hoping the track would meet their needs later in the race, but with the storm moving in; it would be hard to tell. Jacob lost a few positions due to handling. He continued hoping that his patience would preserve. On lap eleven there was a red flag, which unfortunately gave the rain just enough time to sneak in. The race was called to due to weather and Jacob was awarded the fifteenth position. “With our setup, I feel that we were just getting warmed up. If we had those last few laps to work with I’m sure we could have made a comeback. Unfortunately we’ll just never know.”
The sun was shining on Sunday and the team made their way to Huset’s Speedway , near Brandon , South Dakota to try it all over again. Jacob finished time trials with an 11.9 seconds, a time he says could be improved next time. “I needed to enter into the corner a little higher. It’s all about reading the track and for those two laps I misread it.” Jacob had to say.
The Knology #99J started tenth in his heat and drove his way to a sixth place finish. “It was a great race. When you’re making moves like that, you can stay pretty confident about yourself. It’s just what I needed for the rest of the night.” Jacob said of his heat race.
Sunday night’s main event topped off the weekend for Jacob and the Ossenfort Racing team. Jacob started outside sixth row, in the twelfth position and battled for most of the race to keep his position. “It was crazy! I’d get passed and find enough momentum to get back and we’d go laps back and forth. Once I started finding rubber I knew I had the car where I wanted it.” The #99J finished with an admirable twelfth place. “It was probably one of the most fun races I’ve had. All the passing was great fun for us as drivers, but great fun for the show and the fans as well.” The proof was in the tires for Jacob. “I drove so hard that there was nothing left of the tires. I’m just glad there weren’t anymore laps left or who knows what could’ve happened.”
Stay tuned this weekend as the Ossenfort Racing team makes their way to Rock Rapids Speedway in Rock Rapids, Iowa on Friday night and back to Huset’s Speedway , near Brandon , South Dakota , on Sunday night.
