Lucas Oil ASCS Look Ahead: The Northwest Swing

Bryan Hulbert - TULSA, Okla. (June 6, 2013) As the Midwest begins to bake during the month of July, the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by MAVTV American Real will set the compass needle to western skies through South Dakota, Montana, Washington, and Oregon.

The first of a nine race swing, July 6 at the I-90 Speedway will begin the western trek. The sixth scheduled Lucas Oil ASCS National stop will seek its sixth different winner since the series’ first visit in 2007 with Jason Johnson parking the Stenhouse, Jr. No. 41 in victory lane. Tony Bruce, Jr. followed in 2008 with following wins going to Gary Wright (2009), Shane Stewart (2010), and first time National Tour winner Jordan Boston in 2012.

July 8 moves the Lucas Oil ASCS presented by MAVTV American Real to new ground with the three-eighths mile Billings Motorsports Park. Located just north of Billings, Mont. the semi-banked oval is a regular stop for the Big Sky Sprints Series which will co-sanction the Monday night event as well as the series return to the Electric Motor Speedway in Great Falls, Mont. on Wednesday, July 10 where series regular Brock Lemley picked up the win over Jason Johnson in 2012.

The Big Sky Sprint Series will visit Electric City on four times prior to taking on the Lucas Oil ASCS presented by MAVTV American Real. A single visit to the Billings Motorsports Park is on the Big Sky docket. A full schedule of Montana dates can be found at http://www.bigskysprints.com.

Grays Harbor Raceway opens the first of a three weekend tour with the Lucas Oil ASCS presented by MAVTV American Real and the ASCS Northwest Regions on Friday, July 12 and Saturday, July 13, pitting the National and Regional contenders at “The Track that Fred Built”.

A highlight of the Northwest Tour is the return to the quarter-mile bullring known as Cottage Grove Speedway on July 19 and 20. Jason Johnson has a hold on the Oregon oval in National competition with four wins to his credit in six starts. Shane Stewart and Brady Bacon are the only other drivers to master Cottage Grove.

Newly renovated prior to the National Tour’s stop in 2012, where Wayne Johnson swept the field in two nights of racing, the Lucas Oil ASCS presented by MAVTV American Real will return to the Willamette Speedway in Lebanon, Ore. on July 26 and 27. In three visits, Gary Wright is the only other winner at the three-eighths mile oval, doing so in 2003.
