Barger, Yeigh go back-to-back at I-90 Speedway
Nate Barger and Cory Yeigh scored victories on consecutive nights at I-90 Speedway while Derek VanVeldhuizen and James Adams claimed their first wins of 2023.
Barger’s victory in the Spielman Excavating IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars came with a bold opening lap in which he drove the Point Bar #98 from seventh to second. On the second lap, Barger secured the lead and would never look back.
However, behind him it was a wild one with Andrew Sullivan charging from eleventh to the second spot. He even made a bid for the lead in the closing laps. Elliot Amdahl raced from ninth to third with John Lambertz going fourteenth to fourth ahead of Lee Goos Jr. who completed the top five from the sixth row.
Yeigh’s victory in the First Interstate Bank Late Model Street Stocks came in dramatic style as he became the third leader of the feature with just two laps to go. Yeigh’s win from tenth is the 37th career win for the Sioux Falls driver at I-90 Speedway. Trevor Tesch paced the field for laps 5-16 and finished second with Tim Dann in third. Matt Steuerwald made a late race charge to take fourth with Colby Klaassen traveling from fifteenth to complete the top five.
Four different drivers had the lead of the Reaves Buildings USRA B-Mod main event with VanVeldhuizen taking the top spot on the eleventh laps and getting the win from there. Justin Voeltz had the lead on laps 4-5 and placed second ahead of Clint Erickson who had the top spot on laps 6-10. Tyler Tesch was fourth and Dustin Kruse completed the top five.
James Adams took command of the LawnSnow.com USRA Hobby Stock feature with just four laps to go. From there, the eighth position started took his second career win at the Hartford, South Dakota, speedway. Tracy Halouska raced from eleventh to second with early leader Dylan Andal crossing the finish third. Nick Brady and Chad Dubac completed the top five.
I-90 Speedway is back in action this coming Saturday night when the Gunderson Racing Midwest Sprint Touring Series and QualityFreightRate.com Midwest Power Series descend the on the track for 360 sprint car action. The four divisions of the RPM Race Series are also in competition.
