Another great night of action packed racing with the Great Lakes Super Sprints making another stop at I-96 Speedway accompanied by a Street Stock Blowout, Hubbco Racing Products IMCA Modifieds and Pro Stocks all on-site to put on a great show for night number 2 of Suicide Awareness and Prevention.
The story for Great Lakes Super Sprints Feature actually began during Heat Race action as perennial contender and favorite to win, Jared Horstman, flipped and would have to make repairs and still race his way in through the B Main. With alot of hard work, and help from many fellow competitors, Horstman was able to make repairs and race in the B. With Horstman seemingly having a tough hill to climb, it was anyone's guess who would prevail with heavy hitters filling the field like “Mad” Max Stambaugh, Dustin Daggett, “Big Wheel” Scotty Thiel, and many others looking for victory on this beautiful night of racing. The race would start with #71 “Mad” Max Stambaugh leading the first 2 laps from pole position before outside pole sitter, #66 Chase Dunham would take the lead on lap 3. Dunham would lead until #51 “Big Wheel” Scotty Thiel would take the lead on lap number 10 and never look back to park it in the Lane Automotive/Allstar Performance Victory Lane. So many storylines for the night along with Thiel winning like; Dustin Daggett having a great run moving up to finish 2nd from his 9th starting position, also, coming all the way from the 2nd transfer spot in the B Main to finish 5th in the A was #17 Jared Horstman, and many drivers coming to I-96 from Canada, including, 14 year old driver, Skylar Evans.1st-#51"Big Wheel” Scotty Thiel 2nd-#85 Dustin Daggett 3rd-#71H"Mad” Max Stambaugh 4th-#87XS Skylar Evans 5th-#17 Jared Horstman. B-Main winner was #7C “The Ohio Gas Man” Phil Gressman. Heat race winners were Thiel, Stambaugh and #14 Keith Sheffer Jr. Thiel would capture quick time with a lap time of 14.236.
Every Friday Night, I-96 Speedway can boast about having some of the best Modified drivers in all of dirt track racing in our HUBBCO Racing Products IMCA Modified class, and this Friday was no different. It looked like #94J Jack Dalman was gonna cruise to the win from his outside pole starting spot until point leader, #12 Jeff Reay, found his way through a stacked field from his 10th starting spot to claim the victory, his 4th of the season. He had to get past some of the best in the business, like the Deyoungs, Fisk, McClure, Anderson, Dalman, Smith, Vandermark, etc. The list goes on as this division seems to have the most depth of contenders every Friday Night. 1st-#12 Jeff Reay 2nd-#19Jr Kody Johnson 3rd-#71 Brenten Deyoung 4th-#7D Myron Deyong 5th-#83 “Portland Powerhouse” Casey Smith. Heats were won by #43F Shannon Fisk and Dalman.
The Pro Stock division usually has 3 top drivers in Trueblood, Husted and Putt along with the rest of the drivers in our pro stock class and this week they were joined by Muskegon driver, Curtis Rice. Rice would pressure the fellas all night but when the checkered flag flew, point leader, #35 Billy Trueblood Jr., would prove too strong to beat picking up his 6th feature win in 7 starts for the 2025 season at I-96 Speedway. 1st-#35 Billy Trueblood Jr. 2nd-#87 Rob Putt 3rd-#92 Curtis Rice 4th-#45 Mike Husted 5th-#7 Jeremy Williams. Heat race winners was Rice.
So many fresh names for I-96 fans came to do battle in the Street Stock Blowout. After the crowd watched Heat races, one of the favorites was a driver out of Ohio, Craig Dippman, and some of our regulars like Brandt, Schmidt, and the Rendels. However, proving to be too strong to be beat would be a driver out of Hillsdale, MI, Eric Swan, holding off Indiana driver, Travis Kyle, and Dippman for the win. Jake Rendel and Bill Brandt Jr. would have respectable finishes after moving through the field. Rendel would gain 5 positions to finish 4th and Brandt would gain 6 positions to finish 5th. 1st-#15 Eric Swan 2nd-#313 Travis Kyle 3rd-#74D Craig Dippman 4th-#06R Jake Rendel 5th-#65 Bill Brandt Jr. Heat race winners were #006 Jarrett Rendel and Dippman.
Join us Friday August 1st for more open wheel action as it will be IMCA Fast Shafts All-star Qualifier for our HUBBCO Racing Products IMCA Modifieds. Always a great place to be on Friday Nights for Dirt Track Racing at I-96 Speedway “Where Excitement Lives”!!
