Galusha Sweeps South Dakota Spring Nationals
JEFFERSON, S.D. – “Dominating” is the best way to describe the weekend results that Frank Galusha posted. In action at Raceway Park in Jefferson, S.D., the Nebraska driver led every lap of racing action on his way to two heat race wins and two feature triumphs, earning the track bonus for winning on both Friday and Saturday.
The Miniakota Micro Sprints hosted 17 cars on Friday night to open the weekend. Though temperatures were frigid, dipping into the twenties, Galusha warmed up the track in his six-lap heat race, earning the win.
After a redraw for starting position, Galusha set up shop from inside of row two in the feature race. Though a flip and subsequent red flag period came on the start, Galusha wasted absolutely no time after that; the Yoshimura Suzuki-powered Stallard Chassis rocketed into the lead entering turn one on the first lap. From there, it was nothing but open air for Galusha, and he calmly navigated the track 15 times to park his ride in the winner’s circle.
Back in action on Saturday with slightly warmer temperatures, one more entrant arrived to push the car count to 18. For Galusha, a “2” in pill draw lined him up from the pole of the first heat race. Six cool laps around the quarter-mile netted another win for the Lincoln, Neb. native.
For the weekend’s main event and a shot at $500 extra if he could double up with a win, Galusha redrew the “4” to start in that position for the nightcap. Again quick at the drop of the green, Galusha emerged from turn two with the field behind him. Without any challenge from behind, the new Stallard SST was on cruise control throughout the event and onto the victory. Galusha was the only driver of the five divisions in action to earn the bonus for winning both nights. “It drives like a dream and was on rails all weekend,” he commented on the new chassis. “It was nasty cold outside but the car was a rocket ship… The Yoshimura Engler combo was on kill mode.”
