Ian Madsen Tops Sprint Invaders in Des Moines!

Ian Madsen recorded his first ever feature win with the Schottenkirk.com Sprint Invaders Thursday night at the Iowa State Fair Speedway in Des Moines. The $1,500 win came aboard the KPC Racing #18, and had the St. Mary’s, New South Wales, Australia native leading all 20 laps.

Before a lap could be completed in the main event, Jamie Ball tangled with Sawyer Phillips in turn four and got upside down. No one was injured, but both were done. Danny Lasoski also went pitside, ending his night. Tony Shilling spun as well, and restarted at the tail.

Madsen shot out to the lead from his starting spot outside row one when the green flag flew. Jon Agan followed in second, ahead of Russ Hall. Jarrod Schneiderman spun with eight laps in the books, just as the leaders were entering traffic. Hall had begun to reel in Agan for second before the caution.

Shilling had come from the back to seventh, and shot by Mike Houseman Jr. for sixth on the restart. As the race continued, more cars dropped from competition, including Ricky Lee Stangl and Dave Getchell who stopped with motor issues with five laps to go.

Hall pressured Agan for second, and Matt Moro put heat on Dustin Hendrickson for fourth. Shilling was also right there, bidding for a top five. Disaster struck for Hall with two laps to go, when his left tire blew, sending him into the turn three wall. Houseman was collected in the incident, got upside down, and both were done. No one was injured.

Madsen held on to win it over Agan, Hendrickson, Moro and Shilling. Chris Martin, Nate Van Haaften, Harold Pohren, Ryan Jamison and Tim Moore rounded out the top ten. Only eleven cars completed the feature. Josh Schneiderman hit the wall, tearing out the front end of his car in the Dash, won by Hall. Schneiderman was done for the night. John Schulz and Dustin Clark suffered motor problems in their heats and didn’t start the feature.

“It’s pretty cool to win here,” said Madsen. “It’s the only race where we get so many of our sponsors and friends here to see us race. The track was pretty awesome, really. Hopefully, it’s like that for the NSL race coming up here (Wednesday, July 22). That’s the other bonus. We got some laps here that some other guys didn’t.”

“We needed this period,” said Agan. “To be honest, we’ve had a rough year. We’re way better than we’ve been. We’ve had some bad luck and everything that way. We were real fast tonight. We came with a different package than we had here last year. I should have went back to it, but we were operating well. The track kept coming back all night, but we ended up being a little loose in the end. Madsen was just a little better than us.”

“It felt good to finish third,” said Hendrickson. “To be honest, I wasn’t expecting it. Harley (Van Dyke) and Carson (McCarl) gave me a great car. It feels really good to hang with Madsen and Agan. We held off Moro, and Moro has a ton of laps around here. It was a good night for our team. More than anything, it’s a confidence booster. We’ve been working hard, and the finishes are finally coming.”

The Shottenkirk.com Sprint Invaders next event will be at the Cedar County Speedway in Tipton, Iowa on Friday, July 10. For more information on the Shottenkirk.com Sprint Invaders, visit www.SprintInvaders.com!
