Miles Family Take Two Wins As 120 Race Teams Pack Maquoketa Speedway- Super Late Models Coming to Town Next Week

Maquoketa, Iowa: Saturday night McMahon Salvage sponsored the Maquoketa Speedway racing program by adding bonus money to the Hobby Stock and Stock car main events and both of those feature events were won by members of the racing Miles family. The leader of the pack, Jerry Miles collected the bonus money in the IMCA Stock car class while graduating Senior Jordan Miles collected the bonus money by winning the Hobby Stock feature.

20 IMCA Late Models took the green for the Kinion Auto Sales main event on Saturday night. The 25 lapper went flag to flag with great racing throughout the entire race. Travis Denning took the lead at the dropping of the green and appeared to have the feature win with in his grasp until late in the race when the leaders encountered lapped traffic. Denning chose to take to the low line as he came on the slower traffic, that allowed Evan Miller to take to the top and drive around Denning. While Denning was trapped down low Justin Kay and Matt Ryan also were able to power by the 56D of Denning. At the Checkers it was Miller scoring his first ever Maquoketa Speedway win taking the checkers ahead of Kay and Ryan.

The Veach Septic & Sewer IMCA Modifieds provided plenty of fireworks in their 20 lap feature. Jeff (Bone) Larson shot to the front from a fifth row start and was heading for the win before Charlie Mohr was able to close on Larson. As the two leaders were battling for the lead in the late stages of the race, slight contact was made sending the B1 into a spin. Larson chose to head to the pit area and Mohr restarted from the tail. Chris Zogg proved to be the benefactor as he went on to lead the last few laps in picking up the win. Jason Schueller crossed under the checkers in second ahead of Mohr and Mike Garland.

Jerry (MPH) Miles scored his first win of the season at Maquoketa by topping a 23 car field in the QC Jeeps.com IMCA Stock Car feature. Several drivers took their turn at the point as the multi grooved track provided great racing. Miles ran the extreme high side of the track and took the lead late in the 15 lap main and went on to record the win and pick up bonus money from McMahon Salvage. John Oliver came from very deep in the starting field to take second ahead of last weeks feature winner Dustin Vis.

25 Amhof Trucking IMCA Sportmods took the green flag in the 15 lap feature event and the Sportmod racing was excellent. Cody Clausen led early from his front row start before several of the Sportmod division heavy hitters were able to make their way to the front. Austin Stamm added his name to the list of feature winners in 2024 by racing to the win ahead of Jarrett Franzen and Shane Paris.

Jordan Miles celebrated his High School Graduation weekend by scoring a hard fought win in the Hawkins Trucking & Construction IMCA Hobby Stock Class. Miles stated in victory lane, “ I watched Dad work the high line so I figured I would give it a shot and it worked for me also.” Miles did not qualify in his heat race forcing him to start the main way back in the 13th position. Miles worked to the front taking the lead late in the race and getting to the checkers ahead of Daniel Wauters and August Bach.

Cyle Hawkins drove right through the center of the track on the initial start of the Tri-City Construction 4 Cylinder main event and shot to the front from a third row start taking the lead before a lap was completed. Hawkins went on to win the caution free race taking the win ahead of Dustin Forbes and Jacob Welter.

The American Iron Series were guests of the Maquoketa Speedway on Saturday night bringing a field of 18 all American made cars which included Chevy's, Fords, Oldsmobile’s, and Packard’s to name a few. When the checkered flag flew, Bart Miller capped off a terrific week by wining the 15 lap feature. Miller had won a whopping $100,000 earlier in the week on an Iowa Lottery Scratch off ticket. Miller stated in victory lane,” my wife got $61,000 of the winnings and I got $10,000 and with the win here tonight, this makes for a good week.”

Saturday, May 25th the Super late Models of the SLMRA Malvern Bank East Series will be in action at the Maquoketa Speedway racing for the $3,000 first place prize money. Hot laps will take to the track at 6 pm with racing to follow.
