JA Fights for Fourth in Final Knoxville Tune-Up
PETERSEN MEDIA: Saturday night during round 15 of the 2011 King of the West Series, Chico, CA driver, Jonathan Allard, picked up a hard fought fourth place finish in Hanford, CA.
After starting the 30-lap feature in the third spot, Allard was able to get past Andy Gregg for the second lap to move into the second spot as he began to battle with leader, Tim Kaeding.
As Allard used the top shelf in turns three and four, he slid too high and actually made contact with the wall on the fifth lap and fell back to the fifth position.
On the lap 11 restart, Allard was able to get around Andy Gregg, and Evan Suggs as he worked his way back into the third position, and began hounding Jason Statler for the second position.
As JA got a solid run on Statler and pulled along side of him, the yellow flew slowing the feature on the 16th circuit.
Once back underway, JA continued to hound Statler as he searched both the top and bottom looking for an opening to shoot into second.
The duo again raced side by side, as another caution stopped the battle with just six markers remaining.
The restart saw JA move to the top of the track with a huge run on Statler as they raced down the backstretch, however JA hung the right rear a little too high off of turn four and allowed Evan Suggs to squeak by and drop Allard to the fourth spot.
As the race drew to a close Allard was unable to get back around Suggs, and held the fourth position.
“The car was really good tonight, and had a lot of speed tonight,” said JA. “I just made a couple mistakes there off of four, that sent us the wrong direction. I think this thing was good enough to win the race, I simply just made too many mistakes.”
