Thrilling Randy Droescher Memorial
24 MSTS 360 sprint cars showed up to put on a show for the Randy Droescher Memorial, and put on a show they did. The full moon shining in the night sky was apparent as the sportsman took the green flag to start the feature action. Bryant Klaassen shot out to the early lead, but then looped his car around after Andy Wiexzorek gained the lead. Wiexzorek and Brian Kroon battled after the restart, which led to the two making contact, sending Wiexzorek to the work area with two flat tires, and Kroon to the back following the caution. Leon Sneller gained the lead for the following restart, and Sneller did not give it back. Leon Sneller picked up his first victory of the year at Rapid Speedway, the fifth different winner this season in the class. 17 Late Model Street Stocks took to battle on Tuesday evening, led to green by Trent Schroeder. Schroeder led the first 8 laps of the 20 lap feature, but Darrin Korthals was charging through the pack from the eighth starting position. Korthals roared around Schroeder on the outside of the track and never looked back, beating Jesse Ackerman and Schroeder to the finish line, respectively. The finale for the night was the MSTS 360 sprint cars. The feature was 24 laps, in honor of the late Randy Droescher. During the Sportsmans feature event, it was announced that $10,000 was put up by Badlands Motor Speedway owner Chuck Brennan. Badlands Motor Speedway will be honoring Randy Droescher Sunday, July 24. Troy Schreurs drew the pole position during intermission, and he did not disappoint. The race started off a bit rocky, as local racer, Jody Rosenboom, spun in turn one, collecting Carson McCarl and sending him flipping off the top of the track. McCarl was okay after the incident. The feature saw one more caution after Dylan Peterson had an engine expire, but went caution free till the end after they went back green. Schreurs pulled away and it seemed as if he was going to pull away for the $12,400 victory, but a familiar name was coming in the final laps. Tim Kaeding started ninth, and with 4 laps to go he started running down Schreurs. Kaeding powered around Schruers coming out of turn two on lap number 24, but Schruers threw a slide job back at him going into turn three, grabbing the lead momentarily. Kaeding then crossed back under him, finding the power off of turn four to win at the line. Kaeding celebrated with donuts on the front stretch, and the Droescher family in victory lane.
