Dover Earns First Win of Season During MSTS Show at Rapid Speedway
Inside Line Promotions – ROCK RAPIDS, Iowa (May 22, 2018) – Jack Dover produced his first feature victory of the season last Friday at Rapid Speedway, which hosted a Midwest Sprint Touring Series event.
“It was kind of my track,” he said. “It was pretty rough. We set the car up right and took off from there.”
Dover opened the night by advancing from fourth to second place in a heat race.
“We had a good start,” he said. “Going into turns three and four on the first lap I was right behind the leader. Something broke on his car and I got together with him. Cody Ledger got by us so we ran second. Otherwise I think we would have won the heat.”
Dover earned enough points to advance into the feature redraw. He pulled the No. 1 to start on the pole.
“I hate the No. 1,” he said. “When you’re out front you don’t know where the best line is. You can’t judge off other people if there’s a better spot to run on the track. It’s a blessing and a curse. However, I think we had a good enough car if we would have started eighth we would have went to the front.”
Dover got the lead on the start, but dropped to second after a close call.
“I went down into turns one and two and went up top,” he said. “There was a big hole up there and it upset the car. We rode around in second for about 10 or 12 laps and something happened to the leader. We were side by side when he broke. After that we cruised.”
The win gives Dover at least one trip to Victory Lane during all 12 seasons he’s raced in the 360ci winged sprint car division.
“Once you get that first win it makes everything so much easier,” he said. “It builds confidence, which is the biggest thing.”
Last Saturday’s race at Junction Motor Speedway in McCool Junction, Neb., rained out.
Dover will return to action this Friday at Jackson Motorplex in Jackson, Minn., before racing on Saturday at Park Jefferson International Speedway in Jefferson, S.D., with the Carpet Land Nebraska 360 Sprints and Midwest Sprint Touring Series. He was victorious at both tracks last year.
