Shake Up Jacob – Congratulations
NEWTON (June 8, 2010) – Last weekend marks the end of a chapter for the young Jacob Ossenfort, as he has officially graduated from Rapid City Stevens High School . Today, Jacob woke up to the next day of his new chapter. He will be attending the University of Wyoming in Laramie , where he will major in Business. “This is going to be a great experience in my life and I’m very excited to go to school in the fall. I still plan to keep racing during the summers while I attend school, but college is very important to me and I plan to stay on top of that.” Jacob said of his next step.
Before Jacob tried his hand behind the wheel of a sprint car he earned numerous titles in the karting ranks from the ages of nine to fifteen. “Go-Kart racing was a major factor in the success of my sprint car racing. Driving karts was a great tool to teach me how to be smooth and consistent. I had multiple Heartland Speedway championships (hometown kart track) which have also helped with my confidence while running these 700-horsepower sprint cars.” He had to say of his racing roots.
Ossenfort’s first full season in the sprint car was run with the American Sprint Car Series (ASCS) Rocky Mountain Region in 2008. This would take him to his hometown track of Black Hills Speedway, where he earned his first sprint car feature win, making him the youngest feature winner in the track’s history, at the age of sixteen. Jacob finished the season ranking seventh in ASCS Rocky Mountain Region points. “This year was a major accomplishment in my eyes. I think winning a race that young was also a good preview of my success to come in the sprint car world. I am still the current record holder as the youngest person to win at Black Hills Speedway and I think this will be tough to beat, as I was only sixteen at the time.” Jacob said of his first season in a sprint car.
In 2009, Jacob raced the season again with the ASCS Rocky Mountain Region; this time placing his name in the history books once again by claiming the title of the “2009 ASCS Rocky Mountain CHAMPION”. This makes Ossenfort the youngest champion in ASCS history. “I started racing very young which gives me an advantage over a lot of people. In racing experience is everything. The more you know about how the car is going to react and how to change the car to how the track is changing, the better off you’ll be. I am a first generation driver so all of this seat time is very important for me to have a successful career in sprint car racing.”
The 2010 season has been another learning year behind the wheel of a sprint car. This year Jacob has spread his wings to racing a 410 sprint car; traveling to places like the famed Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville , Iowa , where he plans to attend the 360 Nationals in August. Jacob will continue to run both regional and national, as well as both 360 and 410 series events throughout the rest of the season. “Racing the 410 is another big step in my sprint car racing career. We expected it to be a little different from the 360 and we were right.” Jacob said of his transition. “It is a goal of mine to set another record by becoming the youngest winner in the 410 class. This would be a huge accomplishment for my first year in a 410. Hopefully we can make this happen.” Jacob said of his hopes for his 2010 season.
You can see Jacob back behind the wheel of his Knology #99J this weekend! Jacob and the Ossenfort Racing team will race Friday night at Black Hills Speedway in Rapid City , South Dakota .
