Head to Head: World of Outlaws Title Contenders at Tri-State Speedway
Haubstadt, IN—October 14, 2010—Having competed on just about every size track during the stretch run of the 2010 campaign, the World of Outlaws will make one final stop this season at a bullring, as the ¼-mile high-banked Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt, Indiana awaits the series on Saturday, October 16 for an event that was postponed by rain earlier in the season.
Entering the race at Tri-State Speedway, 98 points separate current point leader Jason Meyers and 20-time World of Outlaws champion Steve Kinser, with Donny Schatz third, 106 markers back and Joey Saldana fourth, 133 out of the lead as the closest four-way battle in series histories continues.
Kinser, who raced at Tri-State Speedway for the first time in 1976, has had a great deal of success over the years at the track, especially in World of Outlaws events. He has made 26 starts with the series at the track in his home state, racking up eight wins to go along with 20 Top-Five and 23 Top-10 finishes. The native of Bloomington, Indiana was victorious last season at Tri-State Speedway and has won three of his last four starts at the ¼-mile. Kinser has an average finish of 4.8 with the series at the track during his career to lead all drivers.
Saldana, who also hails from Indiana, has raced 13 times with the World of Outlaws at Tri-State Speedway, picking up six Top-10 and three Top-Five finishes as he looks for his first win at the track. The second generation driver finished second to Kinser last year at Haubstadt and was fifth in 2008.
Schatz, the four-time and defending World of Outlaws champion, has made 11 career starts at Tri-State Speedway. He has finished in the Top-10 eight times with a couple of Top-Fives. He finished a career-best third at the track in 2008 as he continues to chase his first victory at the high-banked ¼-mile bullring.
Meyers, the current World of Outlaws point leader, has made five starts at Tri-State Speedway, with the first of those coming in 2004. He has three Top-10 finishes at the track with a third-place run in 2007 being the best of the lot as he seeks his first win at the track. He is seeking to become the first driver ever from the state of California to win a World of Outlaws title.
