Inside Line Promotions – HAUBSTADT, Ind. (May 20, 2019) – Kyle Schuett battled mechanical problems while fighting to a top-15 finish with the Built Ford Tough MOWA Sprint Car Series Saturday night at Tri-State Speedway.

The 410ci sprint car rookie and his team began the evening challenged by a lack of power from their engine in their heat race, where Schuett started and finished sixth.

“I felt a little rusty in hot laps and in the heat race,” said Schuett, who returned to the track for the first time in over a month for just the fourth 410 sprint car race of his career. “We were way off in power in our heat race. The motor was popping and sounding like the rev limiter all the way down the straightaway.”

Schuett and his crew immediately attempted to diagnose the issue.

“We weren’t sure what was wrong,” he said. “We checked a lot of things and eventually changed the MSD box, which turned out to be the issue.

“When the mag moved at our last race at Tri-City, we didn’t realize it had damaged the MSD box because the track was slicker and we weren’t totally in the gas. I had no idea that the box could burn up due to the mag being moved. That’s just another thing you learn as you go.”

While the power issue was resolved in time for the feature, it still indirectly effected the car’s performance in the main event.

“The motor ran great in the feature,” Schuett said. “Unfortunately, we spent most of our time working on that issue after the heat race and didn’t have time to look at the track and see what changes needed to be made to our car for the feature.”

Schuett started 16th in the feature and finished 14th with a car that could have handled better.

“We just weren’t able to do much because of the issue in the heat race,” he said. “We held on in the feature while our car didn’t handle the best. I just tried to stay out of the wrecks and finish all the laps.”

Schuett was particularly grateful for the presence and help of one of his sponsors.

“We’re really thankful for the help we received from Tim Engler in helping us diagnose our problem,” he said. “He was a huge help and we were grateful he was there.”

With the mechanical gremlins hopefully resolved, Schuett is looking forward to a MOWA event this Friday at Jacksonville Speedway in Jacksonville, Ill.

“We finished ninth at Jacksonville earlier this year and realized later that our motor didn’t have full power then,” he said. “We’re looking forward to returning there with things we learned the first time and having our motor problems fixed.”
