Inside Line Promotions – HAUBSTADT, Ind. (June 23, 2020) – Mason Daniel earned his second-best result of the season last Saturday during the final night of a World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series doubleheader at Tri-State Speedway.

The improvement was noticeable during his second trip to the tricky track. Daniel made his debut at the oval last year and he made big gains from the opener to the finale last weekend.

“Learning how to run that track and run that surface is key,” he said. “It’s tricky because it has wood chips, which hold a lot of moisture. But it’s the same track for everybody. The car was good both nights. I did better the second night compared to the first.”

Daniel improved his qualifying, heat race and feature results from Friday to Saturday. The finale began with a season-best qualifying run of 10th place.

“Qualifying is everything,” he said. “We’ve been working on it. We had a good qualifying night and that makes it a lot easier the rest of the night. I wasn’t where I needed to be on the track in the heat race and that set us back. We were the best in the Last Chance Showdown when the track was against the wall. I felt more comfortable then.”

Daniel placed sixth in a heat race before he won the Last Chance Showdown to lock into the main event. He lined up on the inside of the 11th row and battled around that position for the 40-lap feature before ending 20th.

“It’s hard when you start that far back on a short track like that,” he said. “The leaders are going into turn one when you’re in turn four on the start. With no air it makes it tough. We just tried to run all the laps and focus on building on each lap. I felt good and the car came out in one piece so it was a good night.”

Next up for Daniel is the 42nd annual AGCO Jackson Nationals this Thursday through Saturday at Jackson Motorplex in Jackson, Minn., with the World of Outlaws.

“I really like Jackson,” he said. “It’s a good track and I’m excited to get back up there. We ran some 410 stuff there last year and had some good runs. We learned a lot when we raced there last month, too. We’ll start back with that and hopefully we will qualify well again, which would set us up for a successful night.

“My guys, Garrett and Dalton, have been working hard every night and that helps to know that everything is spot on.”
