Adams, Doggett, Duncan and Maxey crowned 2012 Champions; Duncan crowned VA Army National Guard Dirt Series Champion

Jamaica, VA - Bill Sawyers Virginia Motor Speedway wrapped up the 2012 season by recognizing the top ten in each of the track’s divisions with special attention reserved for the 2012 champions. During the night’s events almost $34,000 in cash and prizes were awarded, of that almost $28,000 was in cash. This year’s championships saw two familiar faces and two drivers picking up career first championships.

Scott Adams of Chester, VA was crowned the Victory Lap Late Model Champion for the third consecutive year and received a check for $5,000 for his efforts. Adams also received a $500 certificate from the Joie of Seating, a custom calendar from Al Goulder Photography and his Championship helmet trophy and jacket.

Rounding out the top ten in Victory Lap Late Model points were Tim Shelton of Fredericksburg, VA; Billy Tucker of King George, VA; Joe Ender of Glen Allen, VA; Troy Williams of South Mills, NC; John Staton of Chesapeake, VA; Davis Lipscombe of Mechanicsville, VA; Andy Gregg of Portsmouth, VA; Billy Adkins of Saluda, VA and Alan Anderson of Norfolk, VA.

Taylor Doggett of Ruther Glen, VA was crowned the 2012 Truckin Thunder Sportsman Champion and received a check for $1,000 for his efforts. It was his career first championship. Doggett also received a $500 certificate from the Joie of Seating, a custom calendar from Al Goulder Photography and his Championship helmet trophy and jacket.

Rounding out the top ten in Truckin Thunder points were Junior Carter of Mechanicsville, VA; J.R. Guy of Mechanicsville, MD; rookie Brett Adkins of Gloucester, VA; Stephen Childress of St. Stephens Church, VA; rookie Hunter Shelton of Fredericksburg, VA; Davey Pullen of New Kent, VA; Tommy Upshaw of West Point, VA; Michael Hayes of Ruther Glen, VA; and rookie Chad Beahr of Mechanicsville, VA.

Jimmy Duncan of Fredericksburg, VA was crowned the 2012 Budweiser Modified Champion and received a check for $1,000 for his efforts. It was his career first championship. Duncan also received a $500 certificate from the Joie of Seating, a custom calendar from Al Goulder Photography and his Championship helmet trophy and jacket.

Rounding out the top ten in Budweiser Modified points were three time and 2011 Champion Dan Arnold of Chesterfield, VA; 2005 Champion Page Harrison of Amelia, VA; Mike Reynolds of Clements, MD; Chris Arnold of Petersburg, VA; Brian Dobie of Partlow, VA; Brandon Galloway of Gloucester, VA; Charlie Hubbard of Chesapeake, VA; Neal Hudgins of Grimstead, VA; Aaron Harris of Chester, VA (tie) and Donnie Smith of Fredericksburg, VA.

Brian Maxey of King George, VA won the Collision One Limited Stock Car Championship. The Championship was Maxey’s third division championship and fourth overall (2010 Virginia Army National Guard Dirt Series Championship). Maxey received a check for $700, a $500 certificate from the Joie of Seating, a custom calendar from Al Goulder Photography and his Championship helmet trophy and jacket.

Rounding out the top ten in Collision One Limited Stock Car points were Brandon Sandridge of Mechanicsville, VA; 2011 Champion Wesley Givens of Mechanicsville, VA; Stephen Childress of St. Stephens Church, VA; Marty Coltrain of Chester, VA; David Bowler of Gloucester, VA; Bob Terry of Stafford, VA; Chad Champion of Beaverdam, VA; rookie Bobby Curtis of Richmond, VA and rookie Chad Martin of Gloucester, VA.

The speedway also crowns an overall Virginia Army National Guard Dirt Series Champion which pits all four divisions against each other and in the one of the closest battles in the seven year history of the championship Budweiser Modified Champion Jimmy Duncan of Fredericksburg, VA beat out Truckin Thunder Sportsman Champion Taylor Doggett and Truckin Thunder Sportsman second place finisher Junior Carter to take the overall championship and the $2000 check and special eagle trophy that goes along with it.

Special achievement award winners for the 2012 season included: The Pitts Lumber Rookies of the Year were Joe Ender of Glen Allen, VA in Victory Lap Late Models; Brett Adkins of Gloucester, VA in Truckin Thunder Sportsman; Mike Reynolds of Clements, MD in Budweiser Modifieds and Bobby Curtis of Richmond, VA in the Collision One Limited Stock Car division. Each winner received a plaque and $250.

Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway is a 1/2-mile, dirt oval. The track is located on U.S. Route 17, eight miles north of Saluda, VA and 25 miles south of Tappahannock, VA. The speedway is just a short drive from Richmond, Fredericksburg, Southern Maryland and the Hampton Roads area.
