Justin Williams Takes Checkers in Late Models; Bare, Quade, Adkins and Hutchens also Grab Victories

Jamaica, VA – In front of a packed house on Truckin Thunder Scout night at Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway Justin Williams of Concord, VA and Billy Tucker of King George, VA put on a show for the ages as the two battled for 23 laps before Williams finally took the lead on lap 24 and go on to the victory.

Normally a high side, cushion riding driver, Williams had to use the inside groove to finally get past Tucker for the lead. Once out front Williams set sail to pick up his first win of the season. Shotgun starting David Williams finished second with a last lap pass on Billy Tucker followed by Joe Ender and Billy Hubbard rounding out the top five.

In other action Tyler Bare of Rockbridge Baths, VA took the lead on lap 17 of the Aaron’s Pro Late Model 25 lap feature and went on take his second win of the season. In the Budweiser Modified feature Matt Qaude of Mechanicsville, MD picked up his second feature win of the season in as many races after battling with Mike Reynolds for the victory. Brett Adkins of Gloucester, VA picked up the win in Truckin Thunder Sportsman and Ryan Hutchens of Providence Forge, VA scored his second win of the season in Collision One Limited Stock Cars.

Billy Tucker and Billy Hubbard led the Victory Lap Late Models to the green for their 30 lap feature. Tucker took the lead out of turn 2 with Justin Williams right on his bumper. Williams worked Tucker high and looking for the lead with Tucker keeping the lead by inches each time to the line. For 22 laps Williams and Tucker battled for the lead and David Williams worked his way from his last place starting spot. On lap 23 Williams finally got to the inside of Tucker in turn 4 and took over the lead at the line. Once out front Williams pulled away and went on to win his first win of the season. David Williams, Billy Tucker, Joe Ender and Billy Hubbard rounded out the top 5.

In the Aaron’s Pro Late Model 25 lap feature Davis Lipscombe and Jimmy Duncan led the field to green with Duncan taking the lead out of turn 4 with Ricky Wells in tow. By lap 10 Tyler Bare had worked his way to second and began to put pressure on the leader. Bare tried for several laps to take the lead as the two battled side by side. On lap 16 Duncan slipped up in turn 1 allowing Bare to dart inside for the lead. Once out front Bare cruised to his second consecutive win of the season. Duncan, Mark Parks, Jared Powell, and Ricky Wells rounded out the top five.

Dan Arnold and Mike Clements led the Budweiser Modified field to green with Reynolds taking the lead out of turn 2 followed closely by Matt Quade. By lap 5 Reynolds had stretched his lead to almost ten car lengths when a caution came out for a spin by Joey Dean. On the restart Quade tried to take the top spot but Reynolds held him at bay.

The two battled for the next 20 laps nearly side by side with Reynolds holding on to the top spot until lap 20 when Quade jumped to the outside of Reynolds in turn 4 to take the lead at the line. Once out front Quade pulled away for his second win in as many races this year. Brian Maxey, Dan Arnold, Mike Reynolds and Francis Jarrelle III rounded out the top five.

In the Truckin Thunder Sportsman 20 lap feature Chad Beahr and James Snead lead the field to green with Snead grabbing the top spot out of turn 2. For 9 laps Snead paced the field with a small cushion. On lap 10 Brett Adkins began to apply pressure and on lap 11 Adkins got under Snead in turn 1 to take the lead. Once out front Adkins had to hold off the field on several restarts to pick up the win. Snead, Macy Causey, Roger Jamerson and Chad Beahr rounded out the top five.

In the Collision One Limited Stock 20 lap feature Cory Bradley and Brian Bradley led the field to green with Brian Bradley taking the lead followed by Chad Champion and Ryan Hutchens. The three drivers battled for the lead the first 11 laps until Bradley exploded and engine on the backstretch. That handed the lead to Champion. On the restart Champion and Hutchens began the tussle over the top spot. On lap 15 Hutchens got to the inside of Champion out of turn 4, taking the lead by inches at the line. Over the next four laps Hutchens was able to hold off Champion for his second victory in as many weeks. Chris Maxey, Chris Champion and Brandon Sandridge rounded out the top five.

The speedway will return to racing next Saturday May 9th for Mom’s Night Out. All mom’s and grandma’s will be admitted free.

The night will feature all five of the Virginia Army National Guard Dirt Series divisions in action. See the Victory Lap Late Models, Aaron’s pro Late Models, Truckin Thunder Sportsman, Budweiser Modifieds and Collision One Limited Stock Cars in some of the best racing in the country.

Competitor gates for Saturday May 9th will open at 4pm with spectator gates opening at 5pm. On track activities will begin at 6:30pm with hot laps.

Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway is a ½ mile dirt oval track is located on U.S. Route 17, eight miles north of Saluda, VA and 25 miles south of Tappahannock, VA in Jamaica, VA. The speedway is just a short drive from Richmond, Fredericksburg, Southern Maryland and the Hampton Roads area.
