RACING FOR SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 2 HAS BEEN CANCELED DUE TO WEATHER

Jamaica, VA – Virginia Motor Speedway officials have made the difficult decision to cancel Aaron’s | Pepsi | Commonwealth Motorsports Championship Night due to heavy overnight rains and the forecast for much of the same for the rest of the day.

“After getting over 2� of rain last night and today’s forecast calling for strong to possibly severe storms this afternoon we were forced to make this difficult decision,� commented track owner Bill Sawyer.

Sawyer added, “We hate that we are losing the final night of weekly racing but the safety of our fans and competitors has to be the priority.�

With the rainout your 2017 Champions are Justin Williams of Concord, VA (Victory Lap Pro Late Models), Joey Polevoy of Powhatan, VA (Budweiser Modified), Tim Shelton of Fredericksburg, VA (Truckin Thunder Sportsman) and James Givens of Henrico, VA (Collision One Limited Stock Car).

The Speedway will take the weekend of September 9th off due to the NASCAR events at Richmond Raceway and return to racing Friday and Saturday September 15-16 for the FASTRAK World Championship presented by James River Equipment weekend.

Friday September 15 the speedway will host the $5000 to win World Challenge and on Saturday September 16 the $20,000 to win FASTRAK World Championship presented by James River Equipment along with the $3000 to win Southeast Modified Championship featuring the season finale for the Southeast Dirt Modified Association.

Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway is a ½ mile dirt oval track is located on U.S. Route 17, eight miles north of Saluda, VA and 25 miles south of Tappahannock, VA in Jamaica, VA. The speedway is just a short drive from Richmond, Fredericksburg, Southern Maryland and the Hampton Roads area.
