Jones Captures Lincoln Speedway Victory

Lincoln, Illinois (June 7, 2024) – Parker Jones captured the Midget Auto Racing Association victory on Friday, June 7 at the Lincoln Speedway in Lincoln, IL. This marked the first victory for Jones in the MARA Midget Series and second in a week’s time.

The MARA series saw 24 cars sign in to do battle Friday evening with drivers from around the Midwest taking part. Jones took the Shoenfeld Headers fast time award with a time of 13.637 over rookie Luke Wackerlin.

In heat race action Mark McMahill took AgVenture Heat 1, Daltyn England took Simpson Race Products Heat 2 and Mitchell Davis won Hoosier Race Tire Heat 3. Wackerlin provided the Fusion Engineering Invert Draw by way of the highest qualifier to transfer through his heat race.

Feature race action saw a full field take the green flag. John Heitzman started from the pole position with Charlie Kunz to his outside. Mitchell Davis charged from his 8th place starting position to lead lap one over McMahill who started 6th. Meanwhile Jones, RJ Corson and Alex Midkiff were charging their way to the front. Jones worked his way to third by lap 10 and by lap 12 passed McMahill for the second position. On lap 13 Jones made an outside move on Davis to take the lead. From there Jones fended off a late charge from Corson and Midkiff to earn the victory.

At the completion of the event, it was announced that MARA series official Bill Shipman had been fatally injured in a traffic accident on his way to the event. Shipman was extremely dedicated to the MARA series and will be dearly missed by his family, friends and countless racers across the country.
