Sprint Car Speedweek returns to Creek County Speedway

Bryan Hulbert - TULSA, Okla. (June 13, 2013) Going on 19 years, the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series National Tour has set aside a portion of the season as a test known as Speedweek.

A mixture of racetracks and attitudes, the 2013 edition of the ASCS National Speedweek will cut through Texas, Louisiana, Missouri and Oklahoma with six dates worth over $180,000 in cash and prizes. Among the six nights is the return to the Creek County Speedweek outside Sapulpa, Okla. on Thursday, June 20.

Entering Speedweek runner up in ASCS National standings, Louisiana’s Jason Johnson knows all too well that Speedweek can make, or break, a championship with the week’s challenges greatly affecting the season ending $60,000 prize.

ASCS National Champion in 2008, 2010, and 2012, as well as Speedweek Champion in 2006 and 2008, Johnson’s advice to anyone who competes is, “keep a clear mind and don’t get hung up on what happened the night before”.

Asked about the series return to Creek County Speedway, Johnson elaborated on racing the tight quarter-mile, “The biggest thing is to keep yourself out of trouble on a track that small. It’s fun, it’s action packed, things are happening all the time, and especially in the feature you’re getting into lapped cars in no time so the main focus is to keep you nose clean, and be there at the end.”

Joined by Johnny Herrera and Jeff Swindell, as many as 35 drivers are expected for the Thursday night affair which begins with a driver meet and greet at 4:30 P.M. at the track with races getting underway at 8:00 P.M. (CDT).

Admission is $20 for adults with kids under 10 years of age admitted free into the grandstands. For more information, log onto http://www.creekcountyspeedway.co.
