Bergman and Wilson Garner Sprint Car Wins With Westervelt Winning Mod Lite/Dwarf Challenge

Bryan Hulbert – SAPULPA, Okla. (July 27, 2018) Bringing the American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Red River Region presented by Smiley’s Racing Products and USAC Wingless Sprints of Oklahoma to Creek County Speedway on Friday night, Seth Bergman topped ASCS competition while Brett Wilson ran away for the night’s USAC victory.

Racing hard with Blake Hahn to open the 25 lap ASCS Red River Region Feature Event, the pair made contact racing for the lead just prior the red flying for Alex Sewell who flipped off the top of the first turn on Lap 4. Unable to complete the lap out front, Hahn resumed his chase of the No. 23 only to again have the lights switch before he could make the pass official.

On Bergman for the lead at the race’s half-way point, the red lights came on once more as Mike Goodman and Kyle Clark tangled off the fourth turn. Restarting with the slower car of Fred Mattox in the mix, Hahn would have to deal with the backmarker for several laps, allowing Seth to gap the Griffith Truck and Equipment No. 52 by over a second at the checkered flag.

Hahn would hold on to second with Sean McClelland grabbing third after a multi-lap battle with Kyle Bellm. Moving up from 12th, Lance Norick completed the top-five. Zach Chappell crossed sixth with Jake Greider in tow. Moving up from 18th, Tennessee’s Brian Bell crossed eighth. Ace McCarthy advanced from 16th to ninth with Bailey Felkins in tenth.

Masterful on the cushion, Brett Wilson traded slide jobs with Noah Harris to open the USAC A-Feature.

Riddled with cautions, Harris made several attempts at the lead but was no match for Wilson. Falling back in the closing laps as the No. 53 steadily marched away, the race for second was a toss-up between Chance Morton and Cameron Hagin.

Finally gaining the advantage for the runner-up spot in the final laps, Morton was unable to make up much distance on Wilson who wheeled his way to victory by over two seconds. Cameron Hagin held on to the final podium step with Danny Smith ripping through the field from 12th to fourth. Craig Carroll from 11th followed to finish fifth.

Casey Wills grabbed sixth with Joe Wood, Jr. moving from 19th to seventh. Battling early on for the lead, Noah Harris slipped over the cushion to end up eighth. Pulling double-duty, Blake Hahn crossed ninth with Michael Tyre in tenth.

Squaring off with the Dwarf Cars, the Mod Lites were the dominant class with Duston Westervelt going nearly unchallenged to victory. James Reed from sixth was able to make it to second with eighth starting Travis Lehl crossing third. Cory Hicks made it an all Mod Lite top-four with Chandler Foltz taking the top spot among the Dwarf Cars in fifth.
