SAPULPA, Okla. (September 13, 2018) Despite not being in a Non-Wing Sprint Car in over three years, ASCS National Coordinator, Matt Ward, got behind the wheel of the Dyno Services of Oklahoma/D&E Supply No. 22 this past Saturday and rolled to a tenth-place finish in the Iron Man 66.

“I had a blast. I can’t thank David Stephenson enough for letting me get in one of his cars and have some fun. Hopefully, we can get together a few more times in the future. From a roller to working car in just a couple days, David put me in a very nice piece. Nothing short of quality” commented Ward, who races Micros in NOW600 competition part-time when not on the road.

Fighting a tight car during his Heat Race, Ward was able to hold on for a fifth-place finish.

“I rained a little bit just before we went out. We rolled out with 9 ½ inches of rollout, and actually the car was good on open track but as soon as I tried to get under anyone, the front end would wash out, but not having been in a Sprint Car in so many years, it took me a few laps to get the feel for it again.”

Collected in a racing incident during the B-Feature that put him finishing sixth, Ward was granted a Promoter’s Provisional to start the A-Feature where he made the most of it with a run from 24th to 10th before the race was cut short on Lap 45 due to rain.

“We were really good in the feature. The cautions kind of messed with me because I would get by people only to have to do it again. I think Michael Tyre and I race side by side for almost 20 laps and never touched. At the end there, attrition really helped, and with the rain coming more and more, I wasn’t going to push too hard and end up junking David’s car.”

With his next outing in Non-Wing competition in the works, Ward will go back to the role of ASCS National Director on September 20, 21, and 22 with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by Sawblade.com in action at the $10,000 to win Hockett/McMillin Memorial at Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Mo.
