Fan voting through end of September to determine Lucas Oil Speedway 'Most Popular Driver' Award
By Lyndal Scranton (Wheatland, MO) -- Whether or not your favorite Lucas Oil Speedway driver won a 2017 track championship or not, he or she can still walk away with a prestigious honor at the postseason awards banquet later this fall.
The first Big Adventure RV Weekly Racing Series "Most Popular Driver Award" will be unveiled at the banquet. It will be determined through fan voting between now and October 1 by going to the website https://www.lucasoilinvite.com/speedway-2017.
Lucas Oil Speedway assistant General Manager Danny Lorton said this is a way to add another exciting element to the season-ending celebration.
"We were wanting to add some different things to the banquet starting this year, and this was one of a couple things that came to my mind," Lorton said. "I thought it would be cool to let the fans vote for their favorite driver and the one with the most votes will be the 2017 Lucas Oil Speedway Most Popular Driver, and that driver will be given The Most Popular driver award at the banquet."
Lorton said the speedway also will select a "Best Appearing Car" Award at the banquet, Nov. 4 at the Lodge at Old Kinderhook in Camdenton. Advance tickets are $40 and RSVPs should be directed to Nichole McMillan at (417) 282-5984 by Oct. 27. Doors will open at 5 p.m. with a social hour at 6 and dinner at 7 with the awards program to follow.
The top 10 drivers in each of the Big Adventure RV Weekly Racing Series classes will be recognized and for the third consecutive year a drawing will be held for a Harley-Davidson Roadster to a lucky driver from Lawless Harley-Davidson of Scott City, Mo.
Action at Lucas Oil Speedway resumes this weekend, Sept. 15-16, with the Lucas Oil Pro Pulling Nationals. Gates open at 5 p.m. with opening ceremonies at 7 p.m., both Friday and Saturday.
