The Lucas Oil Invitational Pro Bull Ride Presented by ProtecttheHarvest.com has $10,000 added to the purse for competitors this weekend.
"This is something totally new for our facility and I think it's going to be really entertaining for hard-core fans of bull riding and for our usual racing fans who want to check out something a bit different," Lucas Oil Speedway General Manager Dan Robinson said.
The Amped Up Pro Bull Tour is headquartered in Warrensburg, Missouri. It visits 14 Missouri cities for competitions in 2018 for individual and team competitions.
Isaiah Dunn of Amped Up Productions said there will be 35 professional riders competing, 10 of whom are ranked among the top 75 in the world. Included among those is Shane Proctor of Grand Coulee, Washington, the 2011 Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) champion considered one of the greatest bull riders to ever compete on both PRCA and Professional Bull Riders (PBR) circuits. Proctor is a nine-time PBR World Finals qualifier.
Dunn said Zane Cook and Mason Lowe are other long-time bull-riding stars scheduled to compete. Among Amped Up Tour regulars, Coy Pollmeier of Fort Scott, Kansas, leads the individual standings in 2018 with $3,335 in earnings followed by Lane Smith of Taneyville, Missouri, with $3,311 and Cody Wilson of Elkins, Arkansas, with $3,071. Grant Fulks of Bolivar, Missouri, won the individual season championship in both 2016 and 2017.
"As our name says, we're 'Amped Up.' We blow a lot of stuff up, have a lot of pyrotechnics going in our our show," Dunn said. "Then you have the bulls coming, some of the same bulls you'll see on televised events."
Dunn said a bull named "Lucas Oil Sky High" that has not successfully been ridden is scheduled to test the riders.
"He is owned by Curtis and Dunn Bucking Bulls who have partnered with Lucas Oil who has the naming rights," Dunn said. "Protect the Harvest is another good bull. The bull power is going to be the same as you would see on a PBR televised event, plus a lot of the same riders. It's going to be a great show."
"The arena, we're going to tuck it right up next to the grandstands. There is not gonna be a bad seat in the house."
In addition to the bull riding action, fans will be entertained by Jarrett Dougherty, a multi-award winning comedian who performs on-stage in Branson. Dougherty will be performing and entertaining the crowd throughout the programs, both Friday and Saturday with a motto "he's sure to tickle your funnybone ... and that's no bull!"
