Inside Line Promotions – FRESNO, Calif. (July 14, 2022) – Dominic Scelzi is heading to Ocean Speedway this weekend for a pair of nights during the 12th annual Howard Kaeding Classic.
The bullring in Watsonville, Calif., features 360ci winged sprint cars on Friday before a King of the West/NARC Fujitsu Series event on Saturday.
“I’ve been super consistent at the place and led a lot of laps there,” he said. “It feels like I’ve raced there more than anywhere else around here. This is a big race. I ran second at a non-wing portion years ago. I’ve run third in the 410 finale. I’ve had good runs at the event, but I haven’t been able to stand at the top of the podium. That’s what we want to accomplish this weekend. It’s a big race for big money and we’re excited to race there.”
Scelzi enters the Howard Kaeding Classic leading the KWS/NARC championship standings by 44 points thanks to four feature triumphs, 98 laps led, three quick times during qualifying, five heat race wins and three dash victories – all a series best.
“We’ve had an incredible season,” he said. “We have more NARC wins than we did at this time last year, but we’ve raced a lot less and won less races overall. We’ve been so consistent I’m not really upset we haven’t won as many times as we did last year. We’ve earned a podium every single NARC race except two. We’ve led laps at six or seven races. We’ve been extremely consistent.”
Scelzi won a pair of races at Ocean Speedway last season and he garnered a runner-up result during a KWS/NARC race there earlier this year.
“That track is a tough place because qualifying is extremely important,” he said. “It’s somewhat hard for me to qualify there for some reason. If we can get past qualifying we’re usually in for a good night. If we struggle it puts you behind the eight ball and that place can be narrow to pass on so we need to lay down good qualifying laps.”
