Silver Dollar Speedway Releases 2010 Racing Schedule

CHICO, CA (1-13-10) - An exciting and diverse 37-race schedule is slated for the upcoming season at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico. The staple of the season is our Feather Falls Casino / Hoosier Racing Tire / Coors Light / Pepsi Friday night point championship series. However, promoter Alan Handy is adding some new and old divisions back into the Friday night racing format. The return of Limited Late Models is sure to bring back some names of the past at the speedway. Handy has worked with Rick Young to bring a promising new series, the ASCS Midgets, into the Friday night mix. Handy Racing Promotions is also happy to announce that the championship point's fund will approximately be $20,000 in 2010 with contingencies. As usual The Gold Cup Race of Champions is the mainstay of the speedway and returns in September. The race features the finest sprint car drivers in the world and is sanctioned by the World of Outlaws. In all, this year's schedule features a diverse range of racing divisions to satisfy all kinds of dirt track racing enthusiast.

The season starts on March 12 and 13 with the annual Mini Gold Cup. This race will feature 410-winged sprint cars. A hefty $50,000 total purse over the two nights of racing solidify this event as one of the biggest 410-races in California. Friday night main event's winner will receive $6,000 while Saturday night's winner will receive $8,000. This year's version of the Mini Gold Cup will be unsanctioned, technically making it an open show for 410 winged sprints. The rules and specifications for this weekend will follow the guidelines of the King of California Golden State Series.

The Play Day is scheduled on Sunday afternoon, March 21. This is the only open practice date for teams to get a chance at the famed quarter-mile clay oval speedway.

Big changes have been added to this year's Silver Cup Race of Champions on March 26 and 27. The overall two-night purse has been raised to $44,000. The 360 winged sprints, dirt modifieds and wingless sprints will all be racing for more money this year. The race itself will feature two separate nights of racing. The format will involve heat races, consolations mains and the main event.

The first of 20 scheduled Feather Falls Casino point championship series is slated on April 2. The point series is once again bolstered by the 410 sprint car series. Silver Dollar Speedway is the only racetrack in California that still runs a weekly 410-winged sprint car program. Sixteen nights of point racing are slated in 2010.

The dirt modifieds will once again be a big part of the speedway point championship series. The modifieds will have nine point races. They are also slated to run the Silver Cup Race of Champions in March. The modifieds will get a chance to race Placerville Speedway on July 24.

The Street Stocks will have a chance to hit the speedway 12 times this year. They will be the only local point division that races on July 4th this year. The Street Stocks will accompany the King of California sprints on that night.

The Joe Hunt Magneto Wingless Sprint Series returns for another year of racing at the speedway. Not only will we have a track champion in 2010 but also this year a 12-race series between three tracks will offer a $5,000 points fund. Silver Dollar Speedway, Placerville Speedway and Marysville Raceway Park will each host four Hunt Magneto Wingless Sprint Series events. The top 32 in points from this series will get a chance to compete at the Wednesday night, September 8th , invitational wingless race.

Silver Dollar Speedway is excited to bring new divisions to the racetrack this year. The Limited Late Models are scheduled to appear six times throughout the 2010 season. The Late Models were a weekly division at Silver Dollar Speedway before falling from the schedule in the late 1990's. This limited division will remind fans of the same body styles of years past but inside the car this division utilizes a spec motor allowing a cheaper engine product for the racers. This group will utilize Placerville Speedway rules and has hopes of attracting some of those drivers up to Chico on Friday night while allowing our Chico drivers a chance to race Placerville on Saturday nights.

The ASCS Midgets are scheduled to compete on eight different nights. This series is a Northern California based entry-level division that is designed to permit affordable racing while utilizing a midget chassis.

The Bay City Racing Association (BCRA) midgets will return to the speedway for the first time since the late ninety's. The BCRA will get two nights at the track on August 6 and September 8. The September 8 show is in conjunction with the Civil War invitational on Wednesday night of the Gold Cup.

The Dwarf cars return for three nights of racing on April 2, July 30 and August 13. This group is one of the best traveling series in California.

The premier traveling 410-winged sprint car series, King of California Golden State Challenge, will have three dates this year. On May 8th the annual Dave Bradway Jr. returns. This race is traditionally the biggest one-night payday of the series. The series will return on June 11th with a tribute to Gary Patterson. The Patterson family has done an amazing job in gathering support for this night of racing. The final visit of the year takes place on July 4th . It will be a special Sunday night showing of the Golden State Sprint cars and fireworks.

There will be two Civil War 360 events this season. The first will take place over the Memorial Day Weekend that coincides with the Silver Dollar Fair. That date is May 30. The series returns on September 8, Wednesday night, and is billed at the Pacific Sprint Invitational.

Make way for some carnage on Monday, May 31, as the Silver Dollar Speedway will host its first annual Destruction Derby. The popular event will put an exclamation point on the Memorial Day Silver Dollar Fair. April 30 and May 1 will bring Monster Trucks into the speedway for a two-night show. More information about the Monster Truck Shootout will be available at a later date.

For the second year in a row Silver Dollar Speedway is teaming up with the Relay For Life on May 7th . To find out how you can be involved go to http://www.relayforlife.org/relay/

This diverse racing schedule would not be possible without the enthusiasm of our local drivers, teams and fans. We also are very excited to bring back out relationship with Feather Falls Casino. We need to thank Sherry Sue at Feather Falls Casino for her enduring support of our Speedway. Our relationship with Hoosier Tire will continue in 2010, allowing our teams to keep running Hoosier Tires. Coors Light will continue to be our official beer at Silver Dollar Speedway. We are really proud to bring back Pepsi to the Silver Dollar Speedway in 2010.
