Hunt Magnetos Wingless Shootout heads North for double header

CHICO, CA (4-19-10) -Â After an impressive series opener two weeks ago, the Hunt Magnetos Wingless Sprint Car Series returns to action this weekend with two consecutive events at two different race tracks. Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico will host the campaign this Friday night for the second leg of the series. One day later, the campaign will make it's first appearance at Marysville Raceway Park in Maryville for the third round of the series.
The Hunt Magnetos Wingless Shootout Series consists of 12 events at three different California tracks. The series races at each facility four times between April and October for increased payouts and a $5,000 championship bonus sponsored by Hunt Magnetos that will be distributed among the top drivers in the series at its conclusion.
In addition to the championship fund for the touring campaign, the winner of each feature event in the shootout is guaranteed a healthy $1000 victory. Hunt Magnetos will also award various product incentives throughout the tour including a pair of $50 vouchers during each event.
In addition to the boosted winnings, the Joe Hunt Magnetos Wingless Shootout will determine the starting grid for the popular Wingless Invitational at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico which opens the Gold Cup Race of Champions on Wednesday night, the top 30 drivers in the series as in concludes will be eligible for that high profile race. This Friday night, the competitors of this exciting series will get their first visit of the season on that banked quarter-mile on the Silver Dollar Fairgrounds.
The event is round two of the regional series for the division and they will share the spotlight with the 410 sprint cars and the new ASCS Midget division in the 2010 season opener of the weekly championship series at Silver Dollar Speedway presented by Feather Falls Casino-Hoosier Racing Tires - Riebes Auto Parts and Pepsi Cola. If the performance of the Hunt Magnetos Wingless Series on Friday night is anything like it was at the opener two weeks ago, Silver Speedway fans are in for top entertainment Saturday night that is still at bargain price in today's economy.
"I'm really happy with the way this series is shaping up," said Roger Gleeson of Hunt Magnetos, title sponsor of the Wingless Shootout Series. Gleeson worked with Handy Racing Promotions and Paul Hawes of Marysville Raceway Park to bring new life to the wingless sprint car population in Northern California. Thus far, the trio's effort looks to be paying off in the form of impressive car counts and exciting wheel to wheel racing action.
"Having a car count like we did for the first race was great," added Gleeson. "I think those numbers will continue to grow this weekend. I can't wait for this double header."
As the series returns to action this Friday night, Placerville driver James Sweeney leads the point standings after a strong second place showing in the opener. Terry Schank Jr. of Santa Rosa is in second place one digit back followed by opening night winner Marc Mackay of Shingle Springs. Billy Wallace of Grass Valley is fourth in the ranks followed by Chico's own Taylor Simas and Tom Dupont of Rohnert Park. Timmy Sherman Jr. of Citrus Heights is in seventh place ahead of Johnny Reeves of Elverta, Cody Myers of Browns Valley. Defending Silver Dollar Speedway weekly series champion Jimmy Pettit of Chico rounds out the top ten in the series point standings.
On Friday night the gates to Silver Dollar Speedway will open at 6 p.m. with racing beginning at 7 p.m. Adult tickets will be $12.00, juniors and seniors $10.00 and Children will be $5.
