CHICO, CA (6-1-10) -Â Although it doesn't appear on the original 2010 racing schedule, the Feather Falls Casino Championship season resumes this Friday night, June 4th at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico. It's a special night of racing in memory of one of the true friends of the famed Chico track that will feature three divisions of open wheel racing on the Silver Dollar clay.
The fire breathing 410 winged sprint cars will return Friday night to resume their current battle in the 2010 Feather Falls Casino championship campaign. The winged warriors will be joined by the exciting wingless sprint cars of the Joe Hunt Magnetos Wingless Sprint Car Shootout Series and the up and coming ASCS Midget Division on what is bannered as "Bill Brownell Night" at the Silver Dollar Speedway.
The late Bill Brownell was a longtime friend to many forms of racing in the North State. He was one of the founders of the nearby Cycleland Speedway that has berthed many of today's young sprint car racing talent. Brownell was known for his years of experience and love of motorcycle racing and by far the part of the sport he loved the most was watching a young driver advance in the sport.
This will mark the third annual event to honor Brownell, who attended nearly all of the events at Silver Dollar Speedway up until his passing three years ago. Brownell could always be found with his cohort in racing spectatorship, Chico's Shane Scott, a former Silver Dollar Speedway champion that returns to the drivers seat annually just for this event in honor of his dear friend.
Two different drivers have claimed fame in this annual race since it began. Mason Moore of Princeton won the inaugural event in 2008 and Kyle Hirst of Loomis took the win in 2009. This Friday night the best drivers in Northern California will converge for a great night of family entertainment and possible add a third name to the list of winners, or perhaps, the first repeat winner.
Entering Friday's race, Tyler Wolf of Redding leads the Silver Dollar Speedway point standings along with Moore. Sitting right behind the tied duo is former champion Andy Forbserg just one point back. Kenny Allen of Chico is fourth overall and Jason York rounds out the top five over Brett Miller, Kevin Sharrah, Sean Becker and Dan Simpson.
In the Joe Hunt Magnetos Wingless Sprint Car Shootout Series Terry Schank Jr. of Santa Rosa leads the standings over Chico's own Taylor Simas. Billy Wallace of Grass Valley is third in the ranks followed by Timmy Sherman Jr. of Rio Linda. Johnny Reeves rounds out the top five in this series that consists of 12 total events at three different California tracks throughout the year.
In the ASCS Midgets look for previous winner Dillon Silverman to return with the likes of Rick Young, Jr. Williams Lonnie Alton, Tom Doherty and Travis Haugh. The gates will open at Silver Dollar Speedway at 6 p.m. with racing starting at 7 p.m. Silver Dollar Speedway is located on the Silver Dollar Fairgrounds in Chico and provides affordable family entertainment that is second to none. Bring the kids, bring the neighbors and check out the one and only Silver Dollar Speedway. Further information can be found at www.silverdollarspeedway.com.
