CHICO, CA (6-15-10) -Â Feather Falls Casino and Riebes Auto Parts presents point race #9 at the Silver Dollar Speedway this Friday night, June 18. Four divisions will converge at the Silver Dollar Fairgrounds headlined by the Joe Hunt Magnetos Wingless Sprint Shootout Series. The other three racing divisions will include the dirt modifieds, street stocks and the Dirt Solution Late Model Series. All of these divisions will showcase their racing skills on the famed quarter-mile clay oval speedway.
Front grandstand gate will open at 6pm. Qualifying is scheduled to start at 6:30pm. Racing is slated to start at 7pm. Adult general admission into the main grandstand is $12.00. Juniors and Seniors are $10.00 and children will be admitted for $5.00.
The Joe Hunt Magneto Series is really turning up the heat. So far, 42 different drivers have entered at least one of the five races held this year. The series has built and continues to build momentum in its inaugural season. The series travels to three tracks, Placerville, Chico and Marysville. Each track was given three races to make a total of 12 shows in 2010. Grass Valley driver Billy Wallace will lead the point standings entering this Friday nights race. Wallace grew up racing winged sprint cars but over the past few seasons we have seen Wallace race more without the wing over his head. Wallace has one main event win to his credit this year. Orland driver Taylor Simas sits with Wallace for the point lead at 225. Simas has wins in the wingless division this year, but has yet to get a win during the Joe Hunt Magneto Series. He looks to get off the snide this Friday at his home track. Early point leader Terry Schank Jr. is in the third spot. Schank Jr. has one win this year and is always considered one of the favorites in the competitive series. Timmy Sherman Jr. has landed in the fourth point position. Sherman is winless in the series but has finished in the top ten all five times during the Joe Hunt Series. Consistency is paying off. The leader in wins sits in the fifth spot of points. Ryan Bernal has two main event wins but has finished outside the top ten in main events the other three races he has entered. Bernal looks to get another win or at least a top ten finish at Chico. A large amount of cars are expected this Friday marking the sixth race of the year for the drivers that are following the Joe Hunt Magnetos Wingless Sprint Shootout Series.
Heather Bartlett returns to Chico as the street stock point leader. Bartlett has scored one main event win this year but is the only driver to finish in the top five of every main event this year for the street stocks. Bartlett is trying to repeat as Champion at the speedway. It is a tough task no matter what division a driver is in. It takes talent, a good team and at times some luck. So far Bartlett is on the right path to back-to-back titles. Trying to stop her is a tough group of races led by former speedway champion Scott Rogers. The Redding driver is eight points back of Bartlett. Cottonwood veteran Richard Workman is in the third spot. Workman holds a two point edge over fourth place racer Jake Vantol. Fritz Zanker rounds out the top five.
Nevada driver Tom Purcell and Marysville champion Randy McDaniel lead the dirt modified point standings. Both drivers are tied at 94 points. Neither driver has scored a point main event win this year at Chico. Three points back in third is Darin Ruley. Ruley has been a top finisher in the championship in previous years. This year Ruley has his best shot to finally get that elusive championship. Wade Kennemore and Michael Matthews round out the top five in points. Chico's Mark Abouzeid and Ryan McDaniel each have one win during the 2010 season. Abouzeid is seventh in points while McDaniel is eighth.
The Dirt Solution Late Model Series will be making their third appearance of the year at Chico. Jerry Bartlett has won both of the main events. Auburn's Tom Arbogast finished second to Bartlett both times at Chico. Arbogast hopes to make this Friday night his first win of the year at Chico.
