Geving takes on busy weekend for a good cause in Chico

[b PENNGROVE, CA (5-10-10)] – For the 2010 racing season, two time Petaluma Speedway champion Alissa Geving decided to veer away from the weekly All Pro Series at her home town track to follow the highly competitive Golden State Challenge Sprint Car Series. The King of California tour travels throughout California and Pacific Northwest in the summer months with a very demanding schedule that leaves little time to race locally in non GSC events.
This week, however, Geving has announced she will return to Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico on Friday night to compete in the third Feather Falls Casino Championship point race of the season. Geving is not returning the Silver Dollar clay because it is one of her favorite area tracks. Nor is she competing in the championship points campaign.
Geving decided to enter the event when she heard the evening will benefit the "Wings of Eagles", a Joseph Alvarez Organization for seriously ill children. The event is sponsored by Geving's longtime family friend, Garth Moore and Moore Insurance Services and is a very special night at the speedway for some very special children.
"I always love racing at Chico but racing on a Friday night is tough when we have a race far away on Saturday," said Geving. "But for an event like this I think it is important to show our support. It's going to make for a lot of traveling for us but being part of this race that will put some smiles on some children's faces makes it all worthwhile. I think it is great that Garth Moore and Handy Racing can work together on something like this for such a good cause."
Geving will join her longtime racing colleague Mason Moore of Princeton in this very special race that is a big night for his father, team and family and especially for a number of Children from the "Wings of Eagles" organization that will be in attendance for the event. Many of the youngsters will have the opportunity to meet the drivers in competition on Friday night. It is moments like these that a child will remember for the rest of his or her life.
The "Wings of Eagles" is the Joseph Alvarez Organization for seriously ill children. The organization was established in June of 1993 by Georgia Alvarez in memory of her son Joseph who died of a very rare and terminal form of leukemia in January of 1991. Since "Wings" inception, over a million dollars have been raised to help children in and about Northern California who have various forms of serious, life threatening illnesses, with preference given to pediatric cancer cases. Hundreds of families who have a child with a serious illness have been served by "Wings", relieving their financial and emotional burdens.
"Wings of Eagles" is an all-denominational, nonprofit public benefit corporation. All funds raised directly benefit families who have a seriously ill child. Following the waving of the checkered flag on Friday night in Chico, Geving and her Chicko Motorsports team will pack up and head south to the Groppetti Automotive Thunderbowl Raceway to compete in round eight of the Golden State Challenge Series. The event marks Geving's second appearance this season at Tulare. This weekend she looks to advance in the point standings where she currently ranks eighth overall with three top ten finishes and a heat race victory so far. Sitting in 8th place, Geving is 84 points behind series leader Brent Kaeding, illustrating how competitive the Golden State Challenge Series is.
Last weekend Geving competed in two straight nights of 410 sprint car racing at Silver Dollar Speedway. On Friday night, aboard her Tillett Tool, Matt Cordeiro Enterprises, Pit Stop USA #3 sprint car, Geving drove into the top five during the second Feather Falls Casino point race on the famed quarter mile. Earlier in the evening she scored a heat race win as she was preparing for Saturday's GSC event. On Saturday night, Geving kept her chin up on a night of tough luck and mechanical woes throughout the evening. She finished her night 15th overall to maintain her top ten position in the point standings.
In addition to the Golden State Challenge Series, Alissa Geving has announced additional dates to her 2010 schedule that will bring her back to Petaluma Speedway for several select events in the months to come. Visit her website to view her revised schedule with the added races that do not conflict with the King of California Series which also returns to Petaluma Speedway on Friday night, May 28th.
"Since going to the GSC series we have gotten a lot of emails from fans," said Geving. "They have all been very supportive but they have also asked when we will be back home racing. So we've added a few nights to our schedule that we didn't have on there before. I'm really looking forward to the Golden State Series coming back to Petaluma and Calistoga in a few weeks. I miss my local fans every week but I love racing this series too."
