Marysville, CA – June 7, 2010…Returning to the Marysville Raceway Park for the annual Mel Hall Memorial Placerville, California’s Andy Gregg capped the evening by driving to a third place finish in the 30-lap main event on Saturday night.

It was Gregg’s third visit of the season to the Marysville Raceway quarter-mile bullring and the third place effort bettered his previous best finish of fourth, which came at the season-opening Spring Sprint Car Open.

“We had a pretty good night overall and it was a fun and smoothly run event so I have to give thanks to the staff and everyone involved at MRP,” commented Gregg. “I tried to run the high line early on in the race, but moved down to the bottom and just had to be patient so that definitely helped us get up to third by the finish.”

Gregg kicked off the annual Mel Hall Memorial by timing in seventh fastest overall in qualifying at the helm of the Bret Ervin Racing, 7-Industries, Guinness Beer No. 53 Maxim. He then drove from fourth starting to easily win his heat race and transfer into the main event, where he lined up from the inside of the fourth row. When the green flashed on he tried hard to make something happen on the outer edges of the track, but fell into line in the eighth spot and ran around there for much of the race, before he started to methodically work his way forward.

With 20-laps completed the “Hurricane” started to get rolling nicely as he picked off cars and sliced his way up to fourth with just a handful of circuits left. When the white flag came out Gregg crossed under it in fourth, but when leader Steven Tiner spun around on the final lap it bumped the Guts Racing Graphics, Borello Racing Engines, Ervin Sales Group sprinter up to the third spot at the finish.

“We definitely had the thing rolling around good late in the feature and with a few more laps I felt like we might have had something for Herman Klein who got second,” said Gregg. “We’ll take third though and I want to give a big thanks to my car owner Bret Ervin, my whole crew and all our sponsors for continuing to support us.”

Gregg will now get set to climb back aboard the Team Guts Racing No. 16x sprint car for this Friday’s Golden State Challenge 410 Sprint Car Series sanctioned 27th annual Tribute to Gary Patterson at the Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico. During the most recent GSC event at SDS tough luck on the opening lap of the feature ended his night prematurely and on Friday he will be looking for a better result, in what will be his seventh start of the season with the traveling 410 sprint car series.

“We’re looking forward to going back to Chico on Friday to try and get a good run with the Golden State Challenge guys,” said Gregg, who finished third in the main event during the Feather Falls Casino weekly 410 show at Silver Dollar on May 7. “It looks like it should be a really good field so that will make it fun and we’ll just have to see where we shake out with the best of the best in California on hand Friday. The last GSC show at Chico didn't end how we wanted, but I felt like we were really good and hopefully we can show that this weekend with a strong finish.”
