Civil War treks north for double header; Chico and Quincy on tap
CHICO, CA (6-14-12) -Â The Hoosier Racing Tires Civil War Sprint Car Series rolls into action this weekend in double duty fashion with the fourth and fifth events of the current season back to back on Friday evening and then Saturday evening at two different race tracks. On Friday night the tour returns to the banks of Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico for the second consecutive event of the season. Following the Friday night action, teams will continue further north to Plumas County where they will make their one and only appearance at the American Valley Speedway in Quincy.
As California's premier traveling series for 360 cubic inch powered sprint cars heads into the competitive weekend, Elk Grove native Kyle Hirst is at the top of the roster in the series point standings. Hirst recently won the prestigious Mel Hall Memorial event at Marysville Raceway Park to launch forward in the point standings over Colby Wiesz of Colfax
Currently, Hirst holds a mere five point advantage over the Colfax Comet who is looking for his first win of the season this weekend. Sitting in the third position is Auburn's Andy Forsberg, the defending Civil War Series champion who routinely performs well at both tracks. Forsberg is just six points out of the lead in third place and is holding off Cameron Park's Stephen Allard. Allard will come into the Chico event carrying the momentum of a hard earned win at Placerville Speedway last weekend and also has much success on the banks of Silver Dollar Speedway where he won the weekly 410 sprint car championship.
The driver's with an abundance of experience in the north don't stop at fourth place. Sitting fifth in the championship standings is former Silver Dollar Speedway and Civil War Series Champion Greg DeCaires of Elk Grove. DeCaires is currently ties with Allard in the standings, 20-points out of the lead.
Former Civil War Rookie of the Year Mason Moore of Princeton is sixth in the point standings, 23-points from the top spot., Sacramento's Herman Klein is tied with Moore while Richard Bailey of Napa is tied with Penngrove's Chase Johnson, the 2011 Rookie of the Year for the eighth position. Jeremy Burt of Grass Valley rounds out the top ten in the point standings.
