The traveling series is coming off a Saturday night race at Placerville that saw 26 drivers enter the nights racing action. A great car count is also expected this Friday night at Chico.
Silver Dollar Speedway promoter Dennis Gage is giving a rest to his 410 sprint car division because he wanted to showcase the Joe Hunt Series as the top billing on Friday night. "It's important to me and Roger that the Silver Dollar Speedway still plays a vital role in the series," said Gage. "We have and will continue to support this division of cars."
The series has produced three different winners in the first three races. This trip to Chico will mark the first repeat track of 2012. The series started their year off at Silver Dollar Speedway on March 12th when Scott Hall beat the 17 car field to the checkered flag. Since then, other winners have included Geoff Ensign (Petaluma) and Matt Streeter (Placerville). After Placerville, a total of 42 different drivers have earned championship points.
The series is led by Terry Schank Jr of Santa Rosa even though he is still searching for his first win during the 2012 campaign. Schank sits atop the point's standings at 150 points. Schank has to be considered the favorite at Chico after having won two of the last three wingless Friday night main events this year. After earning the hard charger nod at Placerville Speedway, Biggs Cody Smith sits in the second spot. Smith has earned 133 championship points. Napa youngster Joe Stornetta holds down the third spot. At 125 points, Stornetta holds just a two-point advantage over Scott Hall. The Rio Linda masher is looking for better luck at Chico than Placerville. Hall crashed on the second lap of the main event and was not able to continue on. Roseville's Angelique Bell rounds out the top five. Bell has amassed 107 points.
Continuing the points on throughout the top ten will include Travis Moore (who has one win at Chico on the Friday night shows) Ensign, D.J. Johnson, Rowdy McClenon and Sparky Howard. McClenon is the current wingless point leader at the Silver Dollar Speedway.
