Machado Wins Race; Vantol Champion
CHICO, CA (9-6-12) - Orland's Jake Vantol had already wrapped up the 2012 track championship before the Thursday night race, yet, he still wanted to go out with a bang. Vantol started 12th and worked his way up to a third place finish. "I just wanted to come out and make sure we took the green to secure the championship," said Vantol. "From there I just worked my way up to a good finish. I can't complain when you finish behind Hall and Machado. They are two of the best." Vantol was referring to main event winner Mitch Machado and second place Corey Hall. Machado's win was impressive as he lead for the majority of the race. Yet, Hall should be commended as well for his second place finish. Hall started 13th and passed most of the field with ease. Hall rolled all the way up to second and challenged Machado but was never able to make the move he needed to get the win. Machado said, "My son picked this race date out earlier in the year to run with the World of Outlaws." He continued by saying, "I always love to come to Chico and it's treated us real good over the years. Maybe next year we will come up to Chico more often." A total of 17 cars showed up for the final point show. Because of a decision made by the World of Outlaws officials the Street Stocks were not allowed to compete in heats and had to race their main event once the Outlaws had finished. Kyle Cheney started fifth and finished fourth. Bill knoop rounded out the top five.
