USAC Ignite Focus Midget start up program at Silver Dollar Speedway
CHICO, CA (1-29-13) -Â Silver Dollar Speedway is pleased to announce an agreement to host events with the USAC Ignite Focus Midgets for the 2013 season. The object is to develop an entry open wheel racing program at Silver Dollar Speedway targeting young drivers and their families as well as sportsman drivers who are looking at a lower cost option than sprint cars. The program will use the USAC Ignite Focus Midget legal car and technical rules package abide by USAC racing rules and procedures. The new program will include restricted rookies, 12 years of age or older in addition to the older, more experienced drivers.
Silver Dollar Speedway promoter Dennis Gage said, "I am excited about the chance to allow a new division to grow at our race track. I know that we will need to try and grow a car count for this program but the idea is to offer it and see if it can turn into something positive down the road."
The project will begin with a development phase that will concentrate on bringing in enough cars and drivers to form a viable class. During this period Silver Dollar Speedway will provide track time for practices, test and tunes, and exhibition style races that will fit into the track's regular schedule of events. Competitors would be required to purchase a limited USAC competitor license for $100 and standard track pit fees. "We have two great feeder tracks nearby with Cycleland and Red Bluff and some of those kids and families don't have the financial means to buy into a sprint car right away. We need to continue and develop the affordable open wheel classes for the good of the race track," said Gage.
Gage continues to be on the forefront of bringing in traditional, cost effective dirt track racing at Silver Dollar Speedway. For the past two seasons Gage has developed the winged economy sprints from one car to nearly 15. He has also brought back the Hobby Stock division for those wishing to enter stock car racing at an affordable level. "I am very sensitive to the rising costs associated with racing," said Gage. "I want local drivers and families to be able to afford and enjoy a great outdoor family sport. With the new developing divisions I hope that Chico and the surrounding community residents will become more involved with racing at the Silver Dollar Speedway."
The racing dates for the USAC Ignite Focus Midget are April 26, May 10, June 28 and July 26. Two early season play dates will be held on March 3, Sunday, noon to 4pm and a "play night" held on March 15, Friday, 6pm to 10pm.
