David Tarter Memorial this Friday Night
CHICO, CA (6-3-13) -Â I can still remember the feeling I had in the pit of my stomach the evening we lost David Tarter. However, with the dedication of his family and the constant reminder of his brother racing in David's honor, I still feel as if he never left us. This Friday night, June 7th, the racing community will get the chance to remember, honor and continue to keep his spirit alive with the first annual David Tarter Memorial at Silver Dollar Speedway. This night has the chance to be one of the biggest Friday night shows that the speedway has ever hosted. On behalf of the speedway, we need to thank everyone who has helped raised money and spread the word about this upcoming race.
In honor of their son, Howard and Shelly Tarter have been instrumental in gathering extra money for this race. A staggering $3,500 will be awarded to the sprint car main event winner on this night. In fact, the #35 will be a common theme tonight, as the sprint car main event will go 35-laps instead of the normal 25-laps. Thanks to the Ruhs family of Austrailia, there will also be a "Dash for Cash" titled HIGHRACE 24 Hour Towing / Ruhs Family Dash. The winner of the special dash will receive $1,000.
Randy Frank designed an event t-shirt in honor of David. Most of the proceeds will be added to the nights overall purse and make this race one of the most lucrative Friday nights in the history of the Speedway. "We have to thank the speedway, our immediate friends and family and the local business' who are participating in this Friday nights event," said Howard Tarter. "The outpouring of support this past year has really been humbling. Our son touched a lot of people's lives and while we miss him dearly, we are proud of the things he accomplished in just a short time." Russell and Nicole Moore have also been instrumental in helping gather sponsors and art work for this event.
Tonight the speedway will host points race #7 presented by Wells Fargo. Four other divisions will join the sprint cars including dirt modifieds, street stocks, economy winged sprints and dwarf cars. The speedway would like to thank Tim Grant for designing and making a one of kind winner's trophy. Grant wants to thank Steve Cox and Casey Lee for the photos.
Adult price for general admission into the grandstands is $13.00, junior and seniors $11.00. Children ages 6 - 11 are $6.00 and kids 5 and under are FREE. Dennis Gage is offering a discount for fans that wear the new David Tarter Memorial t-shirt to the races on this night. If you are an adult, senior or junior and you are wearing, or holding in your hand the new Tarter shirt, the admission will be $10.00.
Confirmed King of the West sprint car drivers coming to try and win this race include Chico's Jonathan Allard, Sacramento's Kyle Hirst, Grass Valley's Jason Statler, Scotts Valley's Evan Suggs, Sacramento's Willie Croft and Watsonville's Justin Sanders. These winged warriors will battle the local Friday night stars including Sean Becker, Andy Forsberg, Jason York, Bud Walberg, Keith Bloom, Clint Wilson, Craig Swim, Kevin Sharrah, Mason Moore, Brad Bumgarner and many, many more.
