Championship Auto Racing Returns to SDS This Friday Night

CHICO, CA (4-1-14) - The popular and powerful winged 410 sprint cars will make their season debut this Friday night, April 4th, during championship auto racing at Silver Dollar Speedway. The emphases of the first few races in the month of March have been the winged 360 sprints. This Friday night the focus will shift to the 410 winged sprint car division led by defending champions Sean Becker of Roseville and Auburn's Andy Forsberg. A crowd of other drivers are hopeful to knock these two veterans off their top spots.

Four other racing divisions will join the sprint car division this Friday night and they include street stocks, mini stocks, limited late models and hobby stocks. The street stocks and hobby stocks are racing for the second time this season. This will mark the first race of the year at Chico for the limited late models and mini stocks.

Pit gate will open at 4 pm. Front grandstand gate will open at 6 pm. Racing is slated to begin at 7 pm. Adult general admission is $13.00, juniors and seniors $11.00 and children between the ages of 6 and 11 are $6.00. Kids five and under are free.

While Becker and Forsberg should get all the credit they deserve, there is host of talented drivers scheduled to appear this weekend. Chico's Jonathan Allard, Campbell's Bud Kaeding, Princeton's Mason Moore and Placerville's Andy Gregg are just a few of the talented sprint car drivers planning to race this Friday night. Local drivers Brad Bumgarner, Bud Walberg, Clint Wilson and Keith Bloom Jr. all are chomping at the bit to dethrone the former track champions. Add to the mix the hot start by Paradise driver John Michael Bunch, former two-time champions Jason York and Orland's B.J. Martin, this Friday night is as good as it gets if you are a fan of open wheel 410 winged sprint car racing.

Fresh off his win on opening night, Jesse Skidmore leads the hobby stock division by just three points over Kyle Allen. David Pierce is as good as they come and he holds down the third spot. Defending champion Brian Compton sits fourth. Shannon Collins, Mike Funkhouser and Wyatt Brown are all mixing it up for the fifth spot in points.

Out of town driver Mitch Machado scored another impressive victory during the street stocks divisions first point race of the year back in March. He holds a three point lead over Chris Warner. Two-time and defending track champion Jake Vantol will look to rebound after his sluggish start. Phil Marino, also a two-time champion, sits in the third spot of the championship battle. Rumor has it that a certain driver is coming out of retirement and looks to make her debut this Friday night. We certainly hope this is true.

Both the mini stocks and limited late models will make their debut this Friday night. Both divisions are hopefully of good car counts and close racing. Once we get this first race in we will have a good idea of the rosters for each series.

Make sure you plan on coming out this Friday night because next weekend we are off again because of the scheduled Monster Truck Madness X Tour that takes place April 11th and 12th.

Racing will resume at the speedway on April 18th as we host the annual Bill Brownell Memorial. The 410 winged sprint feature event winner will receive a staggering $2500 to win. This race is also being filmed by MavTv and will be shown on their network at a later date.
