Becker Leaves Competition in the Dark

CHICO, CA (5-1-15) - The only thing that could stop Roseville, CA driver Sean Becker from claiming victory would be a catastrophic freak occurrence. Disaster would strike on lap six as a nearby power transformer blew-up sending the speedway into total darkness. Becker beat the competition and power to claim career win 53 in the five lap shortened main event. According to hammerdownusa.com on July 8th 1989 Marv Webster won a three lap shortened NARC sprint car main event. To our knowledge this is the shortest race in modern day sprint car racing at Silver Dollar Speedway. Sixty cars showed up to battle for the win during Chuck Paterson Dodge points race #5 presented by Frys Metals. Phil Marino, Tony Richards, and Ryan McDaniel also picked up victories during points race #5.

Sean Becker was the fastest car on the track jumping out to an early lead pulling away from the rest of the field when on lap five the speedway would go dark. Officials had no choice but to call the race with five laps complete as power could not be restored and Becker claimed victory. Jason Statler, Justyn Cox, Bud Keading, and Mason Moore rounded out the top five. Colby Copeland was the biggest mover in the five lap main event advancing five positions from his 12th starting position to finish 7th. Andy Forsberg, Tanner Thorson, and Moore each were victorious in heat race action. Keading set quick time with a lap of 11.575.

Phil Marino advance from his fourth starting spot to find victory lane and sweep the night in the street stock division. Marino battled early race leader Chris Warner for the lead. Disaster would strike for Warner on lap six when contact with a slower car would knock him out of contention surrendering the lead to Marino. Clinton Earl and Gary Newman rounded out the top three. Heat race action was claimed by Eddie Hammett and Marino.

Tony Richards was the class of the field leading all 20 laps of the wingless main event to claim the victory. Johnny Burns and Casey McClain would give Richards all they had to try and steal the top spot away coming up just short finishing second and third respectively. Heat race victories went to McClain and Terry Shank Jr.

Ryan McDaniel stayed perfect winning his third straight Ltd. Late Model main event. Matt Micheli jumped out to the lead on the opening lap with McDaniel working his way up to second on lap six. The caution flag would waive on lap seven and on the ensuing restart McDaniel would get around Micheli and not look back. Micheli finished second with Jeff Olschowka third. David Newquist and Micheli were victorious in heat race action.

Silver Dollar Speedway will be back in action tonight for the 25th Annual Dave Bradway Jr. Memorial featuring the King of the West 410 Sprint Cars. Front gates open at 5:00pm with racing action scheduled for 7pm.
