Tyler Walker and Carson Macedo Add Talent to July 4th Event
CHICO, CA (7-1-15) -Â Sprint car driving standouts Tyler Walker of Los Angeles and Lemoore youngster Carson Macedo have each entered the Saturday night, July 4th Fast Cars and Freedom event at the Silver Dollar Speedway. Walker will be piloting the Richie Rich Motorsports #88 while Macedo will drive the Josh Ford Motorsports #73. Walker and Macedo join a stellar cast of local sprint car racers all vying for the top spot during the 25-lap, $2,000 to win main event.
The polarizing Walker was a surprise entrant just a few weeks ago in Chico on June 5th. Walker, who has made headlines over the years both on and off track, had been out of sprint car racing for the last three years. His talent behind the wheel of a sprint car had never been doubted. In 2011, Walker won the prestigious Kings Royal at Eldora Speedway. In 2009 he won the King of the West sprint car championship. He still holds the record for most single season wins, nine, with the King of the West series.
Walker was working in Los Angeles when his cell phone rang on Monday June 1st. He received the call from friend and crew chief Lee Lindgren who was offering a chance to revive Walkers sprint car career. Walker knew that this was an opportunity he couldnt pass up. The first night in the car at Chico, Walker turned the fastest lap in qualifying. That lap set the tone for the rest of the weekend where he was a contender to win each time the car hit the track. On Friday night he finished third in the main event. On Saturday night he finished second. It was an eye opening experience for the both him and the fans. Walker has the charisma that all sprint car fans can appreciate, said King of the West director of communications Gary Thomas. He has been through so much and its hard not to root for a guy like him. I think the fans are in for a real treat again on Saturday.
Macedo became a nationally known name when he beat the World of Outlaws last year at Silver Dollar Speedway during the Friday night prelim race. This year Macedo has followed the King of the West sprint car series. Thomas also spoke highly of Macedo and said, "Carson is definitely one of the brightest young talents we have in California. He continued by saying, he's been solid the first half of the season with the King of the West Series and has been towards the front of the point chase all year. Not just a good driver, but he's also a great representative of our sport at just 19-year-old."
