Willie Croft Victorious in Bradway Weekend Opener
CHICO, CA (4-29-16) -Â 35 winged 410 sprint cars signed into the pits for Silver Dollar Speedway Points Race #4, the opening night of the Dave Bradway Jr. Memorial Weekend. When it was all said and done it was Willie Croft's familiar #29 rolling into Victory Lane on the front stretch. Other winners during Points Race #4 included Terry Schank Jr. in the Wingless Sprints, Phillip Shelby in the Street Stocks, Ryan McDaniel in the Ltd. Late Models, and Brian Compton in the Hobby Stocks.
At the drop of the 25 lap 410 Sprint Car A-Main Event, it was Auburn, CA driver Andy Forsberg lined alongside Campbell, CA driver Bud Kaeding on the front row. Forsberg would get the jump and lead the first five circuits around the racetrack. On lap 6 Bud Kaeding was able to take the lead away from Forsberg. Bud though, would relinquish the lead as well, this time, to the #75 of Sean Becker on lap 11. Becker looked poised to pick up yet another victory at Silver Dollar Speedway, but Willie Croft had other ideas. Croft began to close on Becker and on Lap 19 Croft would take over the lead and not look back as he went on to win his 2nd race of the season at Silver Dollar. Becker would have to settle for the 2nd spot, while Bud Kaeding finished 3rd, Rico Abreu 4th, and Andy Forsberg rounded out the top five finishers.
The scariest moment of the night occurred during the 12 lap B-Main Event for the Sprint Cars. Michael Ing lost the handle in turn two and would spin in front of the entire field. He collected the #12 of Jarrett Soares and the throttle would then hang wide open on the #21 of Ing launching him towards the infield. Before the car could get to the infield though, its path was interuppted by the #5 car of Brian Boswell who was trying to sneak by on the inside. The two cars made heavy impact but would both come to a stop. All drivers involved were ok. Jarrett Soares did walk to the ambulance complaining of knee pain. Justyn Cox would win the B-Main Event. Heat Race Winners included Kyle Hirst, Dominic Scelzi, Willie Croft, and Bud Kaeding. Rico Abreu was the final car to hit the track in Time Trials and would go Quick Time with a lap of 11.480. Abreu knocked Andy Forsberg who was the first car out to qualify off the top spot with that lap.
Terry Schank Jr. dominated the 17 car Wingless Sprint Main Event once again for his 35th Career win at the Speedway. Jeremy Wilson piloted the Michelet Motorsports #46 to a 2nd place finish. Don Emery's #50 finished 3rd. With Barry Pries Jr and John Clark rounding out the top five. Heat Race action saw Terry Schank Jr and Brettt Youngman pick up wins.
Ryan McDaniel would recover from an early race spin in turn one to pick up the Victory in the Ltd. Late Model Main Event. McDaniel had his handful though after he sustained minor damage in that spin. McDaniel got some help a couple laps later as the top three would tangle in turn three and bring out the yellow. When they went back to green McDaniel was third. That wouldnt last long however as he would power to the lead and not look back picking up his 18th career Ltd. Late Model Main Event win. McDaniel also picked up the lone Heat Race Win.
Phillip Shelby dominated the Street Stock Main Event, leading every lap enroute to victory. It did not come easy though as he felt pressure the entire race from throughout the top five cars. Chris Warner made him earn it in the last few laps as he was right there waiting for a mistake to be made. Warner though would have to settle for the 2nd spot in the end. Ryan McDaniel's charge to the front would come up short in the 3rd spot. With Brent Hall and Mike Slightom rounding out the top five finishers. Heat Race Victories were claimed by Phil Marino and Ryan McDaniel.
The Hobby Stock Main Event saw a familiar face pull into Victory Lane once again. That face being that of Sacramento's Brian Compton. Compton has been the man to beat in the Hobby Stock Class at Silver Dollar for about the last 4 years. Orland, CA driver Brad Ray had an impressive run finishing in the 2nd position. Kyle Allen finished in the 3rd spot with Shannon Collins and Cameron Hammett rounding out the top five. Hammett's fifth place finish is even more impressive after he sustained heavy damage in an accident early in the night. The crew though was able to make repairs and the young driver was able to secure a solid finish. Brian Compton and Brad Ray were both Victorious in Heat Race Action.
Tonight we return to action once again with the 26th Annual Dave Bradway Jr. Memorial. The King of the West Sprint Car Series invades the Speedway with a bunch of extra money and prizes on the line for the drivers. Gates open at 5:00pm, with Qualifying scheduled to start at 6:30pm.
