C&H Hunt Tour Round Two Goes To Austin Liggett
CHICO, CA (3-11-17) -Â Fighting back from issues early on Tracy, California's Austin Liggett was able to make an impressive recovery en route to a dominating victory on Saturday night with the C&H Veteran Ent. presents Hunt Magnetos Wingless Tour at Silver Dollar Speedway.
Liggett's night got off to a rocky start when reported magneto issues caused him to receive no qualifying time. After that however, it was nothing but positive as he made a wild move on the start of his heat race to go from last to the lead before one-lap was even completed. The heat race victory then made him eligible for the dash, which he would also go on to win.
He then grabbed the lead after a couple laps in the feature and never looked back on way to taking the checkered flag with a 4.518 second margin of victory over second place.
"With how the night started out it feels great to be standing up here and I couldn't be happier to win at Silver Dollar Speedway again," Liggett commented. "After we didn't get a qualifying time my team really got this 51 car dialed in so I can't thank my owner Brian Sperry and my parents enough. I also want to thank all of our sponsors and supporters including C&H Veteran Enterprise, Excel Environmental Services, Walker Performance Filtration, Jarrett Soares Racing and Santa Mauro Race Products. Hopefully we can do this again at Petaluma on April 1."
Liggett started on the pole of the feature alongside defending C&H Veteran Ent. presents Hunt Magnetos Wingless Tour champion Klint Simpson of Santa Rosa. At the waving of the green flag it was Simpson who put the Dave Johnson owned No. 32 into the lead of the race. Shortly after a lap-two restart though Liggett showed his muscle and carved his way by to scoop up the top-spot.
The most serious incident in the main event also occurred early on when Barry Pries Jr. got upside down on the back stretch. He emerged okay, but his No. 14 machine sustained heavy damage during the tumble. Pries went home with the Air One Hvac Systems first rollover Award.
The final stoppage of the race then took place on lap-seven and after that it was all green flag racing to the end. Liggett had his way out front in the Sperry Racing No. 51, but the action behind him proved interesting, as Simpson had to fend off the fast closing Kalib Henry of Citrus Heights and Buddy Kofoid of Penngrove.
At one point through heavy traffic late in the race you could throw a blanket over the drivers running second through fourth, until Simpson was able to work traffic well to solidify the runner up spot at the finish. It was a great rebound for Simpson after a tough end to the opening round in Marysville on February 25.
Henry narrowly held off Kofoid to grab the third spot, in what was just his second ever wingless sprint car start. The 17-year-old also began the night by earning the West Coast Race Parts Fast Time Award with a clocking of 13.795 around the Silver Dollar bullring. Kofoid's fourth place finish from the 16th starting spot was exciting to watch and good enough to give the 15-year-old the Davis Motorsports of Reno Hard Charger Award.
Reigning Silver Dollar Speedway wingless champion Angelique Bell of Rio Linda rounded out the top-five in the feature. The remainder of the top-10 in the 25-lap contest was comprised of Sparky Howard, Adam Christian, R.C. Smith, Zachary Kavert and Tim Sherman Jr.
The C&H Veteran Ent. presents Hunt Magnetos Wingless Tour will return to action on Saturday April 1 at the Petaluma Speedway.
